    I found where if your CPU is showing around a 50% utilization, you need to check "Disable all Enhancements" box in the sound panel.  I did that but I had to reboot to get my CPU back to normal.

    If the process is really checking to see if you have any enhancements turned on, why in the world would it need 43% CPU utilization to do that.  If this is an error, and it must be, since it has been around for a while, why has it not been fixed in the RC?  To me, this would seem to be a high priority item.

    Hi,

    Can you please help us with below information for more clarity of your issue: -

    1) Is it that after installing SP2 you saw hike in CPU utilization and it was showing perfectly fine in SP1 ?
    2) Can you tell us steps to follow to reproduce your issue. Also is there any workaround you have to come out of it ?

    I had the same issue, thanks to this post, we found a temp solution.
    I thought it was my new ssd until I discover via anvir task manager that the plug & play service (svchost) was eating 50% of my cpu.

    1) Yes SP1 was more stable
    2) Same steps as Saltgrass.

    This is a real problem and many people are experiencing it. CPU usage seems to spike randomly to 80-100% and remain high for 10-15 minutes, to the point the system is unusable. The problem seems to have appeared with RC1, but I can't confirm that it wasn't there before. It's still there with RC2.

    The process taking the most CPU time is "DComLaunch Plug and Play" and disabling enhancements does help, but does not solve the problem entirely. 

    This is a criticial issue, and must be fixed immediately...

    Hi,

    Can you please confirm following things which would really help us in investigating this issue better:-

    1) Did you see this issue on Vista SP1 or you started seeing it only after installing SP2?
    2) Did you try installing SP2 RTM build and see if that resolves the issue?
    3) Also were you playing any music on Windows Media player when this issue reproed on your machine?

    Hi.

    I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 installed, don't use Media Player and have the same issue. The services DComLaunch and Plug and Play are eating my cpu for free.

    I already tried to "Disable all Enhancements", with no results (rebooting, re-rebooting, etc..)

    If this issue is about the sound driver, my sound driver is Realtek High Definition Audio version 6.0.1.5546. As my laptop is sony vaio, this is the last version published. If I use the last version publish in Realtek site, my sound goes off and and I have to rollback it.

    Please feed me with any news about this issue.

    Hey all - 

    I'm getting the same problem, intermittently, since Vista SP2 update was installed (KB948465). Procexp shows svchost "DComLaunch Plug and Play" guzzling up to 50% CPU for 15-20 minutes at a time, resulting in a very sluggish system. After rebooting and re-rebooting, problem reoccurs. I've not changed my hw config in any way. 

    System is a Dell Precision M4400, Quadro FX770M, 4Gb RAM, Vista Ultimate SP2.

    I'd provide a DxDiag but the form says "body must be 0 to 60000 characters long"...

    Hi all,

    I have Windows Vista Biz SP2, and have the same issue. The process (svchost) which are the DComLaunch and PlugPlay services are eating my cpu BADLY. The process line is (C:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k DcomLaunch)

    I also tried to "Disable all Enhancements", with no results. I have uninstall SP2, no results, reinstall SP2, still no result.
    I am not able to work well my the laptop (HP6730 with 4GB RAM)

    Please help with any solution....Thanksssss.
