I have a 2008 Enterprise server x64 and after I installed SP2 System Center Virtual Machine Manager(SCVMM) stopped working. Now when I try to run any of the following updates I get "This update does not apply to your system" and I have checked with both the cluster validation tool and microsoft's qfe tool manually checking for these updates. Non are presently installed.

The following .msu files fail to install and give the error "This update does not apply to your system" after the installation of Server 2008 x64 SP2 - Please help we really need to scvmm back online asap.... This same error is happening on 3 of my servers presently. All are x64 2008 enterprise - cluster servers.

    Hi Dan,

KB958184, KB959962, KB960038, KB956697, KB956710 and KB961260 are included in Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2). As you have installed SP2, they have already been installed. You cannot reinstall them and you do not need to reinstall them.

KB969497 is an IE8 update. If you do not have IE8 installed first, you cannot install it. IE8 can be downloaded from the following site:

    Hi,

As this issue is mainly related to System Center Virtual Machine Manager, I suggest discussing it in our System Center Virtual Machine Manager forum. They are the best resource to troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks, I came here to mark this answered but someone beat me to it.

The solution was to reinstall the scom console. Then my scvmm started up and I could open the console. At some point in time a SCOM console was installed on this server. Then it was uninstalled. Next SCVMM was installed and its console. When 2008 x64 SP2 was installed something was changed in the way the wonder bar console or what ever the new mmc is that both the scom and scvmm console use now. The scvmm service would check for the scom console components, not find them then fail to start up and throw a 19999 error.

Hope this helps someone.. I called into Microsoft support for the solution. They have a great bunch of guys on the SCVMM team. (Thanks M.B!)
