EventID 513 Capi2 error

I obtain this error situation just after boot-up. I have read and carefully followed the advice and information contained on the 'Technet' information page concerning this. All the required permissions are in place for the Registration folder. vssadmin list writers does not have 'system writer' included in the list. I presume this error will continue if this is not the case and although there seems to be no problem with my system restore and system repair functions, I would prefer to remove this error. What must I do to place 'system writer' back onto the approved list. Any help would be much appreciated.

Vista Ultimate x64 - frequent "(not responding)" on various applications

Running 64-bit Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Dell Precision 390 desktop (fast Core 2 Duo X6800, 4GB Ram)

This happens to me two or three times in a typical day using Vista on this machine. I will be using some application - it seems that almost any application may be affected - and it will suddenly become unresponsive. If I click on the application's window again, it displays "(not responding)" in the title bar. Sometimes the application's window becomes 'greyed out'.

If I click on another application's window, sometimes it works normally but often it also locks up. If I click some application in the task bar, it will not restore the application's window; instead the whole thing (Windows Explorer, I am guessing) becomes unresponsive. The mouse may continue to move but no mouse clicks are processed. Icons in the tray, like that for TaskManager, do not update.

After being frozen like this for maybe 30 seconds, everything returns to normal. Usually several windows suddenly come to the front, as though some of those lost mouse-clicks are now being acted upon.

The applications that may show the "(not responding)" in their title bar seem to include almost anything. I have seen it happen on Outlook, Word, Firefox, VMWare Workstation, Google Chrome. So I suspect the problem is not with any particular application but something about the Explorer desktop or Vista's handling of its message queues.

I have not been able to detect any particular conditions that trigger the behavior. The system has 4GB RAM which is plenty for the set of applications that I usually run. There does not seem to be any application consuming the CPU.

I searched the event viewer but cannot find anything interesting at the times corresponding to the problem.

Is there anyway to save my files and programs when in this state?

I have the same problem as everyone else, so I'll spare you all :)
But I have many important files, pictures, and programs that I would like to keep.
Is there absolutely any way to recover them, without buying a ton of installation ____?
Maybe with a USB drive or anything reallly?

Vista SP1 wont install, error 800B0100

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any progress in finding the remedy to this particular error. I've read in other places that this is caused by a missing signature. When I try to download SP1 through windows update it just doesn't start at all, it stays at 0% downloading and doesnt move until it fails and gives me that error. I downloaded the entire service pack as well and tried manually installing it, It gets a little over the halfway point and stops and gives me the same error. I've tried going into safe mode and trying both ways but it still does not work. Any other update will install just fine, other than 1 particular update which hasn't been able to install since 11/13/07 its Windows Update (KB941649). I've tried looking for remedies for this update as well but I haven't found it either. It gives me the same error code as SP1. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have got vista ultimate sp1, czech, and after downloading the new sp2 beta I wanteted to install it. However, the installation failed, actually didnt even start. It says error insufficient buffer (0*8007007a) and that the area for data is too small (despite having 35GB of free space on the system disk). Anyone has encoutered this issue?

I've seen that others have had issues with this, as well. Upon trying to use Windows Update or the standalone SP2, I get the same error:

ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490)

I tried running the System Update Readiness tool, and that didn't solve my problem. However, I have uploaded the log files and the CBS.log to my public SkyDrive for viewing, if there's someone who could look at them and help me out. Have installed sp1 v688 and not really had many problems, but there is only 1 restore point i can go to,
and if i choose a different restore point, there is no Show Restore Points Older Than 5 Days check box.

Windows Update install failed, error (code 80070490)

Windows Vista will not install updates. I believe i have the S.P.2 already installed. Windows Defender constantly comes up as failing to initialize when i start up (i have found a related answer in the forums to do with Defender clashing with Mcafee virus software). I sometimes have problems with Mcafee virus protection that willnot "fix" when selected & will not manually scan either. My computer repeatedly crashes or restarts, or I.E. stops working. My google sidebar fails to startup occasionally. My Dell dock also fails. I am having trouble with various hardware. Such as my DVD/CD device willnot start because "configuration info. (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged", yet when i check driver updates they are up to date & if i change boot settings to boot from my DVD/CD drive it does. My sound has twice stopped working for no apparent reason. I also have occasional problems with various USB devices (MP3 players, USB flash drives, mobile phones etc) no matter which USB port i use. A couple of times my keyboard has stopped working. Sometimes i have to download drivers to use them, when they used to already be installed & i could plug in and use these devices instantly. The list goes on!!!
I have had to do a system restore to an earlier backup point just to get the system to run, yet i still have most of these problems. The hard drive &/or fans sometimes make strange noises now too. I fear it is only a matter of time befor something really bad happens :-(
I have spoken to Dell support (who i found quite unhelpful!) & all they could suggest is a complete system restore.
I dont want to do a complete system restore, as i am unable to backup my personal files (such as photos & music) because my DVD/CD drive is not being detected & either will a USB flash drive when plugged in. If I could at least backup my photos etc, onto DVD/CD i would feel a bit safer to maybe try a complete system restore, or any other solution anyone may have.

Slow-running after installing SP2

Since installing Service Pack 2 my Dell Vostro 1500 laptop has been running slower - especially noticeable when using CS4. Wish I hadn't bothered - was running fine before. Anyway I can either fix this or uninstall SP2?

Visual C++ 2005 redist fails after failed SP2 upgrade attempt

I attempted to upgrade my SP1 Vista x64 business install to SP2. The upgrade failed with an unspecified error.

Since that time I have tried to install a Visual C++ 2005 redistributable. This fails with a similar error code, I suspect the issues may be related. The failed install results in the following entry in the CBS log,

Allright guys, I'm pretty savvy, but have limited experience with boot information. I want to create a recovery partition for my Vista x64, using the complete pc backup in the control panel. I've created a WinRE image, and I know how to integrate it into my F8 menu, but only from the c: drive. What I need to know, and where my knowledge is lacking, is how to boot from another partition without any of the boot record being on the root partition. Let's say I have a partition: Recovery [R:]. I need it to be COMPLETELY self-sufficient. I want WinRE on r: and I want it to boot from r:, not from c:.

The point is to be able to completely overwrite every other partition, including c:. If I'm booting WinRE from the c: drive, then the restore won't work because I'd be trying to overwrite WinRE's boot information, which would be in use. I have a 500Gb SATA hard drive partitioned as follows: Vista [C:] @ 120Gb, Data [F:] @ 300Gb, and Recovery [R:] @ about 40Gb, all in that order. Do I need to move the recovery partition so that it's before c:, or can I leave it where it is? What is the Mb/cylinder limit to where a partition is no longer bootable? I can resize r: down to under 20Gb if I need to.

What I DON'T need:

-I don't need any suggestions on third party partitioning programs. I have Acronis, but I only want to use Vista's built-in app.

-I don't need any suggestions to boot from the cd. I already know I can boot from the setup disc, I don't want to do that.

-Also, I don't need any suggestions to back up to DVD's, I don't want to do that either.

Basically, if you're not answering any of the specific questions above, then you're not helping. I know what I want to do, I just need some help on how to do it correctly. Thanks again!

Errors galore when updating hp active support library

Constantly get reminded to apply two updates to my system..says it is critical. Everytime I try, I get the same errors. SP39516.exe
HP Active support library error error : 1316 A Netwwork error occcured while attempting to read from the file c:\windows\installer\hpactivesupportlibrary.msi

Error 1603 Fatal Error during installation. Consult Windows Installer help.

I have gone to msi.chm and msdn for help, but have been completely unsussessful. Is there someway safely to let a "very smart tech person" take my system over and fix this for me. I am on a sailboat offshore several miles. Just close enough for my Sprint / Nextel modem to work just fine. Thanks!!

I'm running Vista Home Premium on a new HP laptop. I try to backup my drive. Everything proceeds normally (Creating Shadow Copy, Scanning Files to Backup, Backing up) but soon I get the error message: 'Backup did not complete successfully. What's the story? I've cleared my restore points info to see if that helped. Still no dice. I need help.

Hi ,

0xc0000034 - Blue Screen Error message after installing Windows Vista Service pack 2.

* Will not boot to any of advance boot options.
* Cannot do a Startup repair.
* Cannot do a system restore.

To boot to the desktop sucessfully, try these follow steps in the WinRE - Command Prompt

cd windows\system32\config
ren default default.old
ren sam sam.old
ren security security.old
ren software software.old
ren system system.old
cd regback
copy default ..\
copy sam ..\
copy security ..\
copy software ..\
copy system ..\

After this type : EXIT and restart the system.

It will boot to the normal mode with the service pack 1 on the Computer.

So in future if you plan to install the service pack 2 or any service packs, please do the follow before you install the service packs.

* Disable Antivirus / Firewalls
* Installing in clean boot state. MSCONFIG .
* Make sure all the Driver are up to date.
* make sure BIOS is up to date.
* Make sure no external device are connected to computer while installing the service packs

Down loaded Vista SP2/X86, (32 bit on a Toshiba laptop, AMD Truion X2, 3 gig mem, 250 gig HD, Vist Home Pre) ran it and it told me I needed SP1 (which I knew). I was sure I install SP1, so I down loaded Vista SP1 and tried to install, but it said, what I knew, SP1 is already installed. Tried SP2 again, still not joy.

Ran System update Readiness tool, then tried to install SP2, still not joy.

Ran System Update Readiness tool with clean boot mode, then tried to istall SP2, still no Joy.

hi my name is bassy .. im running a
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
HP pavillion dv5 notebook (media edition)
Amd Turion 2.1 ghz
1mb cache
256 ati graphics
250gb hdd
4gb ram ... yadda yadda

ive recently discovered that my auto update wasnt updating ... i checked settings such as ivp6 and ivp4 but everything was ok
i tried auto update but it failed with the following message

"Failed: 1 update,
Error(s) found:
Code Error 8000F0900 Windows update encountered an unknown update"

so i press "View missing updates"

and selected is "Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465)"

so i continue on and select "Install" ... and it tries again .. and i recieve the same message as above .....

i have tries the manual install and have downloaded the Windows Vista SP2 from microsoft downloads countless times ... but to know prevail as it fails it doesnt even reach the installing part i press next i accept press next then it fails.

something caught my eye however that my machine was manufactured and bought within the EU uk and ireland to be exact .... and im downloading a en-US package .. should this make a difference i know it does wen updating or patching games such as world of warcraft or battlefield 2 ... just thought id mention it .... logs and checks i have no idea please help me ...

btw my desktop updated on the second try .. the first it said succesful but it was a fake or something and was stil SP1 i did it again and its now SP2 ... :S... anyway please help me

I've had this error code for months now, I've searched all over and even tried a few recommendations, nothing worked. I was happy to see that SP1 was finally available, after searching for how to install that too, I finally found it, but wouldn't you know, I guess I can't install it because of the same error... using the windows update utility I can't install ANY update!!! Very frustrating, my USB port isn't quite working 100%, I saw a patch for that too, for the stack, but no, I can't even install that because my windows updater is all messed up or something. If anyone can help me with this it would be very much appreciated. I'm about to go back to XP any day now if I can't get this going....

TrustedInstallers Changing my Attributes

If anybody can help me, please. TrustedInstallers show up in programs properties as a user that has the full control in the entries, that when I try to edit it responding I don't have the permission to do so since I own this system or as an administrator, which I found out that is not similar to "administrators". Which leads to messing up my setups. "Snap-ins" got something to do with it but can anybody explain this to me in an earthly language?

My trust issue between my two DC's were due to "failing domains were of the type DOWNLEVEL, i.e. NT4". Can some one provide a step-by-step guide to rebuilding the 2 way trusts from a Windows 2003 DC to make it UPLEVEL as well as how to enable SID filtering to allow trusted domain accounts to log on to the Terminal Server 2008 farm ? Running Amadeus Selling Platform on XP Pro SP2 inside Vista SP1 host

I am trying to install and run Amadeus Selling Platform on a new Laptop that has Vista SP1 on it.

But I was told by Amadeus TS that Vista SP1 is incompatible with Amadeus.

I would I be able to run it on XP PRO SP2 with IE7, but the only way to get that on this (new) laptop is to run a virtual environment (VPC2007? or another virtual system) that would allow this to run in a complete separate environment.

Anyone tried this out with either VPC2004/VPC2007 (with the SP's) or in any other environment? Since the pc came with the SP1 environment, there is no other choice.

Since installing SP1, I am regularly getting "Not a Valid Win32 Application Error" for various applications, including Office 2007 (Word / Excel / Outlook etc) which refuse to run.

The problem is resolved by logging off and back on - reboot not required. (No other users logged on and system is fully patched on Windows Update etc)

System halts in boot after installation SP1: !! 0xc0000034 !!

I installed SP1 on a Vista Ultimate Machine (laptop). The installation seemed to run correct, but after the first reboot, the system is not starting up, but a black screen woth white text shows a counter running from 1/73065 to 64583/73065 and showing all kind of system files and registry entries. It halts at 64583/73-65, with this error:

!! 0xc0000034 !! 64583/73065 (\Registry\machine\Schema\wcm://Microsoft...)

What is going wrong? I waited for 3 hours, but nothing happens. Restarting shows the same behaviour. Tried to repair, but, though the repair option from the (technet) installation media show a restore point and says that it is restoring files, it seems to hang in finalizing restore (also waited for some hours).

What can I do to resolve this?

Infelizmente, a globalização conseguiu essas coisas...bem feito para nós.´São as leis da economia de mercado, ao contrário. Eles não precisam mais aplicá-las como foram formuladas. Todos estão descontentes, mas todos (inclusive eu...) nos dobramos ao Minotauro, fortalecendo-o cada vez mais. Pessoalmente, acho que não é por escesso de competencia deles, mas sim, de falta de competencia nossa. Nossa!... somos 6 bilho~es de pessoas incompetentes... por isso, o mercado deles NUNCA vai ser realmente tratado com as normas de ética e profissionalismo que eles apregoam, e as quais estamos sujeitos, caso resolvam se virar contra nós. Pelo contrário, continuam nos vendendo produtos incompletos, suspeitos, inseguros, e pedem a nossa colaboração para aprimor-a-lo - mas, o que ganhamos com isso? Ganhamos o computador travando mais, mais lento, cheio de programetes espiões, e cada vez mais à-deriva, porque aumentaram as nossas dificuldades quando tentamos resolver dificuldades... temos mais páginas para procurar, mais foruns de discussões, mais serviços de atendimento ao cliente... atendimento - não ajuda para solucionar.
Eu estou há mais de uma semana com o mesmo problema de vocês... Aquela maldição já me fez aceitar dezenas de vezes os termos de responsabilidade, já me informou que estava baixando, que estava instalando, etc., dezenas de vezes.... acho que o meu HD deve ter um monte de gigabytes com essas coisas que são baixadas estupidamente.

Repair/Upgrade With SP2 Integrated

When trying to perform an upgrade/repair install from vista sp2 ultimate to vista sp2 ultimate (the same disk used to install the original system) the error was I can not upgrade from a older version of windows to a more recent one. I intgrated the service pack myself and it installs as it should but the inplace upgrade option was disabled for the version conflict. I was thinking this could have to do with the configuration files in sources folder which are from the original sp1 dvd and have bean searching and experimenting with some of them trying to remove the old sp1 build information with no luck. Would anyone have some ideas on how to change the build information in the sources folder from SP1 to SP2 if indeed that is what is blocking the upgrade/repair?

Configurating updates: stage 3 of 3 stuck in endless reboot loop

My install of the SP1 RC Refesh has gone wrong.

Everytime I start the computer it says:

Configurating updates: stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete

And then reboots, and reboots, and reboots ... I had it rebooting for over an hour before I stopped the madness.
All the safe modes does the same, so how do I uninstall the installer, without being able to log in?

Try 1:

I Try to update Windows Vista SP1 towards Windows Vista SP2 (KB948465).
The installation ends with error 0x80004005. I also tried already a "Clean install", same error happens.

Cause: When you install Vista SP2, the Vista SP2 installer must update the system boot files. If third-party disk management tools are used to "clone" disks or partitions, the SP2 installer will be unable to uniquely identify the correct system boot files.

Resolution: To work around this issue, turn off the computer and physically unplug all drives that are not required for starting Windows. Power up the computer and restart the service pack installation.
If the workaround is not successful, the alternative is to perform a clean-install.

Try 2:

I changed the configuration and unpuged all disks exept the systemdisk.

The systemdisk contains:
- one system partition. (512 MB FAT32).
- Some free space
- One Start partition (NTFS) containing Windows Vista Ultimate SP1.

Then I startet the Update process für Vista SP2.
It worked simular to the last tries finishing step 3/3 with 100% percent. After some additional minutes, it startet to undo the changes.
Error code 0X80004005

To be very sure, I pepared "Clean install". (additionally only working with one harddisk)
Then I startet the Update process für Vista SP2 again.
It worked simular to the last tries finishing step 3/3 with 100% percent. After some additional minutes, it startet to undo the changes.

SP2 upgrade for windows vista

I use windows update to install the SP2 upgrade for windows vista. It appeared to run and install like it should, then it requested to restart the computer to finalize the install. So heres the thing for the last 3 weeks now everytime I turn my computer on or restart it. The windows update wants me to redownload the windows vista sp2 again. I went back into the log history & it shows me that it was downloaded successful.. So my question is Why do I ave to continue to redo the download if it was done successful the first time????? This is starting to annoy me. Please help........

Windowsupdate: Failed to download Window Vista Service pack 1

I'm trying to update my Window Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1, in
order to support Adobe CS4 program.

I went through all the steps to get the Service Pack 1 installed using
Windows Update, including installing all kinds of recommended and optional update.
I went back through my history and the Service Pack 1
stated it was successfully installed.

However, when I check my system
properties, it does not register that it is operating with Service Pack 1 and
when I try to upgrade. When i insert the Adobe CS4 CD, it said that i'm not running as Window Vista Service Pack 1.

I've tried so many times to install the update but still failed to get Window Vista Service Pack 1.
Whenever i check my windows update, the Window service pack 1 will pop out again and ask to install.
I also tried manually install from the website but again also failed.

Please Help..i really need to install the Adobe CS4 program.

I'm getting the following error. It happens immediately after clicking the first Next button. It says that it is preparing my computer and then returns the error. The error code is listed as "Error: ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490).i tried running CheckSUR.but i still receiving the error.any suggestions?
