    Hi,

    i just recently updated to service pack 3 through automatic updates, and now when i want to install need for speed most wanted, i enter the serial, accept the agreement, and then i get the following error:

    Installation cannot continue because this game requires DirectX 9.0c or higher to be installed on your system.

    You can download the latest version of DirectX here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx

    Solutions?

    Cheers and thanks in advance.

    Arthion,

    Have you installed DirectX pior to SP3 installation? If not, please install directx to test your game again.

    Raino.

    Just to clear things out.

    We have tried to reproduce the issue (and hence debug) it further on a XP Professional machine (SP3 RC2) and have not been able to.

    Can you please share the output of msinfo32 with us at shashank<dot>bansal<at>microsoft<dot>com

    Thanks

    Hi,

    Can you please follow the following steps -

    1. strt --> run --> dxdiag

    2. Wait for the information to be gathered (the progress bar on bottom left corner finishes)

    3. Click "Save All information"

    4. Provide a file name

    5. Please share the file obtained above with us

    Also, please update us with your findings on an alternate PC.

    Thanks

    Shashank

    P.S. msinfo32 is an inbox utility that displays the system information (hardware contents, updates installed, software installed etc.) It can be invoked from start --> Run --> msinfo32.

    I don't think it has anything to do with SP3, i got the same problem with XP pro SP2 fully updated.

    Got the latest Directx installed and i get the exact same error.

    Really not SP problem, the setup does not detect your DirectX version correctly.

    Copy the content of the setup CD/DVD to your hard disk, the search the autorun.cfg file. Change the

    DirectXVersion=9.0c

    to

    DirectXVersion=0

    And the game will install.
