Hi,
I'm running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 version 2002. (laptop.) I also use norton antivirus (might be interfering)?
I have a Western Digital Hard Drive (300gb). When i use the hard drive with a Windows-7 computer it works fine, yet it does not appear in disk management or in my computer. I have no idea why it does not work, i purchased the drive before windows 7 was released and it still works with that (my school cpu is a windows 7 laptop) but it does not appear in my XP laptop.
i am very confused! please help me!
thanks,
Lawrence

Hi,
Is your hard drive an IDE Hard disk or Sata? Also check your connection and resit the connections. Check in device manager if it shows up.

Hi Lawrence,
Is the laptop your personal property or owned by your company? I just had a similar situation with my company laptop where it wouldn't recognize a new external HDD I hooked up to perform backups. My company modified the laptop OS (Windows XP) so users can't format internal and (most) external HDDs to prevent accidently erasures (sometimes, paranoia is a GOOD thing!). I had to take the external HDD to my personal desktop computer (Vista) where it was picked up immediatly in Computer Management. I was then able to format it to NTFS. I removed it from the desktop machine and hooked it back up to the laptop where it was then recognized. Good luck.
