Can someone advise how to solve this issue of reinstalling Client for Microsoft Networks?
My system is Windows XP Professional
The error is:
Error of installing Client for Microsoft Networks:
---------------------------
Network Connections
---------------------------
Could not add the requested component. The error is: Access is denied.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------For your information my TCP/IP still works fine and I can surf on Internet. I already tried to remove the network adapter in Device Manager, tried to install it in Safe Mode but still have the error.
Without Client for Microsoft Networks I am not able to print to a network printer, access network folders.
Thanks, --Harry

Solved.
I read an article about finding the root cause of any Windows error.
At the time the "Access Denied" message comes up, do not click OK. Instead, open the C:\Windows folder, and sort it by time, and identify the two or three most recently written log files. Look in the last ten lines or so of those log files, and see whether anything is specifically identified as having an "error 5" against it.
I found out c:\windows\setupapi.log:[2012/06/21 10:13:09 2396.853]#-198 Command line processed: C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE#-035 Processing service Add/Delete section [MSClient.ndi.Services].#E264 Add Service: Failed to open existing service "Netlogon". Error 5: Access is denied.#E033 Error 5: Access is denied.#E275 Error while installing services. Error 5: Access is denied.
And the Event Viewer gave me information about dependency services and I Deleted text LanmanWorkstation for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netlogon value DependOnService but no help.
Finally the solution is:Copy c:\windows\inf\netmscli.inf to c:\temp2\netmscli.inf, then comment 2 lines related to Netlogon services:[MSClient.ndi.Services];--------Harry----AddService = Netlogon, 0x90, Netlogon_Service_Inst, Netlogon_Evt[MSClient.ndi.Remove.Services];--------Harry----DelService = NetlogonThen install Client for Microsoft Networks by using ‘Have Disk’ button to choose c:\temp2\netmscli.inf.
I am very happy it is solved now and the network printing and network drives all work well.
