anti virus problem window xp

Thursday, December 27, 2012 11:25 PMI can't turn the anti virus on with microsoft security essentials i've run the update still have the red alert icon showing in my start bar. when this has happened before i could run the update and that would take care of it no good this time tho. tried a reboot nothing there still seeing red alert and can't get the virus program part to turn on...Any ideas??

Ran update again found "unimportant" software update listed by microsoft way down on the list when I downloaded that the alert vanished! good thing I kept running updates over and over. thanks.
