    The inventory collection cannot be scheduled, only the performance data collection. Regarding the case study, I can only guess that they scheduled times to manually run MAP over a 2 week period or they mistakenly thought performance data collection was needed as a part of the inventory process. My suggestion for people with remote workers has always been to schedule a time with the remote workers to make sure they are connected and then run the tool at that time.

    We are investigating what it would take to allow someone to schedule MAP to start an inventory at a preset time, but that still wouldn't address your question. The problem we face regarding what you are asking for is the fact that MAP is agentless, therefore there is nothing on the target machine to prompt it to "phone home" and let MAP know it is now on the network, so MAP would have no way of ever knowing that a machine is now connected and ready to be inventoried. For that, you would need to use an agent based system like System Center.
