    Dear MS Support Staff,

Execution of Inventory & Data Collection (Step 1) fails and restarts my machine after about 5mins of running the application. Doesn't matter if I scan IP range or any of the other scanning options

MAP 6.5 installed along with MS SQL 2008 Express x64 on a x64 Windows 7 Pro machine with 8GB RAM.

Unfortunataly I cant provide any event logs of the error as there are NONE, which is strange. Are you aware of the issue?

    Kind Regards,

    Barry

    Hi Barry,

Unfortunately, we have heard of this happening. We have a work around that we put in a blog post (http://blogs.technet.com/b/mapblog/archive/2012/01/11/map-toolkit-may-cause-network-saturation-or-machine-to-reboot.aspx) that involves throttling MAP so that there aren’t so many simultaneous RPC calls. Did you see any event logs around RPC failure prior to the reboot?

Since this is somewhat rare, we only have data from one person so far, but we could use more. If you would like to help us determine the root cause and a long term fix, we would really appreciate it. Please contact me at mapfdbk@microsoft.com and reference this post in your email. Thanks and I hope to hear from you! :)

THank you Micheal for the response.

There arent any noteworthy RPC logs pertaining to the MAP machine reboot issue though. Only this one:

Possible Memory Leak.  Application ("C:\Windows\system32\mmc.exe" "C:\Windows\system32\dhcpmgmt.msc" ) (PID: 7400) has passed a non-NULL pointer to RPC for an [out] parameter marked [allocate(all_nodes)].  [allocate(all_nodes)] parameters are always reallocated; if the original pointer contained the address of valid memory, that memory will be leaked.  The call originated on the interface with UUID ({6bffd098-a112-3610-9833-46c3f874532d}), Method number (2).  User Action: Contact your application vendor for an updated version of the application.

So yeah, it is very difficult to pin point the exaxt problem

This also occurred with me but after speaking to MS and after they ran a tool we determined the problem was with Apple's Itunes.  After uninstalling Itunes the problem never occurred again.

Verify whether you are running itunes on your MAP machine.
