问题 Updating media does not include OS

Everytime I look in the ISO created by running Update Media Content, the Operating System folder is empty. I believe I have set everything up correctly, but the OS isn't there. Any ideas, or something I could have missed?

    Thanks

Wanting to deploy Win 7 x64 only. Have the latest MDT, etc.

I typically update my deployment share on c:\ - then once that's done update the media and then the OS is usually there.

    Have you tried that?

Well, I've done that, and the OS is in the Deployment Workbench.

It's when I go to Deployment Share > Advanced Cofiguration, and right-click on Media, and select New Media. Then I go through that setup, but when It's done, the Operating System in the ISO is empty.

Basically, I need to deploy a WIM create in MDT to computers that are not connected to the network (they are to never touch the network), so I need to use a DVD but I need an ISO.

Is it only missing in the ISO file or also in the folder which contains the files for the media?
(It's a duplicate in a container, because of this I never generate the ISO file)

    Did you check Selection Profiles?

    Not in either.

I have a Selection Profile selected with only that OS selected.

I do notice, it shows up as 17815MB. Not sure if it sees that and balks at it as that definitely won't fit on a DVD. It's just a basic Win 7 Pro x64 OS.

When you say ISO - are you trying import an ISO into MDT?

There are three ways, from what I understand, that you can import an OS.  One would be from the SourceFiles/ DVD/media (not an actual ISO).  You could mount the ISO and point it to that.

The second way would be the .wim file. (the method I've used)

Third would be pointing it to a WDS box.

MDT does not create OS ISOs. The only ISOs you can create are for the boot media, i.e. LiteTouch bootable image to be added to DVD/USB/etc.

Edit: I see what you're trying to do now. May be an issue with the selection profile. You always check SelectionProfiles.xml in the Control folder to see if the OS has been selected.

Hi my friend, i note this issue too, but i fixed in the following way, create a new profile were you select all the stuff to be incorpored into the media, then create a new media with this profile selected.

this workaround may fix you problem

    Regards.

Nathan, do you have the wim file mounted somewhere by any chance? Maybe the wim can't copy because it is in use. I also had issues with creating the Media folder inside the deployment share, so maybe you would want to check into that also.

When you build out the Selection Profile for the media, or rather, when you chose the selection profile for your media, did you check the boxes that you needed for the Operating System?  I generally create folders under Operating Systems (granularly) for each OS (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 2008, 2008, R2, 2012), and then create subfolders for Production, Dev, etc......and then subfolders for each versions of my images.......Then when I do setup media, I can easily choose 1 or more OS's to add into my setup media.  Then create the media, then go through the steps of letting the media create the basic folders, etc.......then I select the Selection Profile that I want to have available for deployment (e.g. Drivers, Applications, Operating System Images, etc....), then right click the media, and select Update Media Content.  Provided you set the media up correctly, it should then add the contents of the Selection Profile to the media, then create and ISO that you can burn to DVD......

    Thanks! Nate

    Nate,

Do you have all of your Operating System Source files imported into MDT?  Or rather, when you imported your OS into the workbench/deployment share, did you import the Full Set of Source Files, a Custom Image file, or WDS Images??????

This is one of my Operating System selection profiles for a generic Server 2003 Std. x64 build from media.....

I believe your problem exists in this part of the XML file, and then would of course lead to the issue you're having.....The problem not being with the XML file itself, but rather what it tells you.....

    Your XML:   <IncludesSetup>False</IncludesSetup>

    My XML:   <IncludesSetup>True</IncludesSetup>

My recommendation would be to create a folder under Operating Systems.  Then in that folder, import the custom WIM file that you want to use.  When you get to the Setup portion of the Wizard, be sure to include the source files for the OS that you're attempting to install (2nd option down in the wizard.....just browse out and find the setup file for the generic install files for the OS).  Then setup your media again.  Once you update the media content, go back and look at that XML file.  I'd be willing to be the <IncludesSetup> returns True........  Hope that helps......

    Nate

    Thanks! Nate

Have you had any luck in getting your deployment to work?

    Thanks! Nate

Haven't had any luck. I've since restarted each step to make sure I'm getting everything. Will see what happens.
