Migrating from MDT 2012 w/ Windows AIK to MDT 2012 Update 1 w/ Windows ADK
-

Thuroughly lost at this point.
Upgraded to MDT 2012 with no issues earlier in the year.
Upgraded to MDT 2012 Update 1 with no issues yesterday.
Refreshing myself from TechED I start looking into ADK instead of WAIK.
But I can find nothing that explains how to replace WAIK with ADK on existing MDT setups.
Is there a guide or instructions somewhere that walks one through switching over from WAIK to WADK?

Well... I proceeded.
I installed Windows ADK on the server, uninstalled WAIK, then updated the deployment share.
Now when I boot to the PE ISO I'm taken into the "Microsoft Solutions Accelerators" screen and then instead of the deployment wizzard, I just get a CMD window. If I type exit, it reboots.

It sounds like you're using the generic boot image instead of the litetouch boot disk.
Delete the contents of the boot folder and update the deployment share.
Use the LiteTouchPE_x86 or LiteTouchPE_x64 boot disk.

I tried rebuilding the distribution share again... logs start out like this.
=== Making sure the deployment share has the latest x86 tools ===
=== Processing Generic (x86) boot image ===
Building requested boot image profile.
Determining if any changes have been made in the boot image configuration.
No existing boot image profile found for platform x86 so a new image will be created.
Calculating hashes for requested content.
Changes have been made, boot image will be updated.
Windows PE WIM D:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x86\en-us\winpe.wim will be used.
WIM file mounted.
Set Windows PE system root.
Set Windows PE scratch space.

It looks like the account that is running MDT does not have access to the Windows ADK files.
I suggest an uninstall and re-install of ADK, hopefully that'll solve the permissions.

Hi, in addition to Andrew's suggestions, maybe try to run MDT as an Administrator and see if the process works.

Just tried. Wiped the boot folder, ran MDT as Administrator, and started to Update the Deployment Share. Getting the same errors.

Can you beleive of all things it was McAfee VirusScan Enterprise? <sarcasm> I had actually checked the On-Access Scanner logs but nothing was being logged during the time of the deployment share update. I talked or EPO admin into disabling it for a few minutes and whalla, I have an error free build.
I had seen a previous post dealing with a simiar issue and it thankfully got me pointed in the right direction and gave me something to help push the EPO admin.
