Automatic email generator

Hi

I configure automatic control systems for various applications such as waste water control where equipment is controlled via a PC connected to a programmable controller (PLC).
The software on this computer is windows XP.

Im a novice at scripting and would like to know is it possible to create a script that will say sit on my desktop in a file and when activated, will send an email to a set email address and then close itself. Microsoft Office Outlook is available on the computer

In the software that i use to control the application there is an option for activating an exe file so im presuming this is the way to go about it.

Is this something you have encountered? is it possible?
