Adding contacts who are already added within a distribution list

Greetings,
Can someone please explain Lync's behavior in the following scenario?
I added my work group's distribution list in Lync, so all of their profiles appear in my contact list under the group name. No one else in my group did it this way, however. They are adding contacts individually, so I continue to get requests to add them.
- If I choose to ignore these requests and not explicitly add them, does it affect their view of me at all?
- Are they notified in any way?
- Is there any benefit to adding individual contacts rather than the groups which contain them (aside from persisting the relationship if they leave the group)?
Many thanks!
Greg

Hi,
first thing is, if someone adds you and you get this pop about he has added you you can also add his contact or ignore it or block his contact but the user will never get a information about what you have done. Only if you block this request he will see you always offline. The different between the DL or single User is the DL will be autmatically update is it is update in the GAL.
You can also add User to more then one group
