Best regards, -
Monday, October 18, 2010 8:21 AMThere is no problem with installing that package on other W7-systems.

So the problem mostly related to registries fault of this Win 7 system, is that any other software also experienced that problem? Would you please check event logs on OS to check errors when Lync client installation failure, and would you please also arise this problem to Windows 7 forum get further help?

No, Lync is only one.
I've checked logs, no entries about this installation.
And yes, I've made a repost there - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproappcompat/thread/b5e75ef1-343a-4ff3-a254-c5b71feb09cf

Hi, I had the exact same problem as you. This problem occurs if you install Lync, remove it and re-install Communicator, then remove Communicator and attempt to re-install Lync again. It is NOT an OS issue. How I fixed it is I searched the entire registry and deleted everything that was OCS Communicator related in the registry, specifically the 'installed apps' area. That did the trick, I was able to reinstall afterwards. This should absolutely be filed as a bug.- Proposed As Answer by Matt Freestone Thursday, October 21, 2010 4:02 AM

Thanks, but OCS was there before system reinstall :) Only my_docs were saved after it. But I tried to clean registry. Reinstall was unsuccessful =(
Maybe somebody knows how to read installation logs in the right way?

I had exactly the same problem with the installation of Lync Client on my Windows 7 Notebook.
What I did was:
- remove OC 2007 R2 using Programs and Features
- tried to install Lync Client -> failed with the "File in use check" Error
- cleaned the REG from all entries regarding OC and Lync -> fail again- the I logged of from the Domain Account, and logged in locally to the machine
-> that did the trick. Lync installed without problems and I could use it with my domain account as well.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Friday, May 20, 2011 7:44 PMis this fixed yet? Encountering the problem on a Win7 machine that I only uninstalled the eval version of the lync client on. There is a ton of LYNC oriented registry entries to remove and this is definitely extremely painful. When are we gonna get this bug fixed?

has anyone found a fix yet? No matter what I try, we are unable to install lync ON ANY win 7 PC. i386, x64, on domain, not in domain, NO previous communicator clients, no matter what.
The download .msi from MS has a corrupt file. Ridiculous....

I've just had the same issue with known good RTM media.
Both workstations had previously had Communicator 2007 uninstalled.
I executed "lyncsetup.exe /uninstall" during the uninstall (even though nothing was technically installed) OCS 2k7 client was briefly referenced as being removed. Once that completed I installed again and it worked for me.
Hope this helps someone....

I have same "Files in use check failed" problem with my Window 7. So far I have tried followings, but none of them worked for me.
-Open regedit and searched words "Lync" and "Communicator" and removed registries.
-Open Windows Explorer and searched words "Lync" and "Communicator" and removed any folders and files.
-lyncsetup.exe /uninstall from command line
-Login as local admin (not domain user) and tried to install Lync 2010Any suggestion? Thanks!

Not to worry....Just delete the below key from registry and you should able to install Lync.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\9BBBC1D08A4F6B54597E02B26AD1A74F
