I created a new archiving server under topology builder on our exisint Lync 2010 installation. When I publish the new configuration, the publising completes but not Archiving database is created. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,

once you publish the topology, have you deployd the Archiving server by running the Lync deployment wizzard. from there, it'll create the LcsCDR database in the MSSQL server instance that you have mentioned in the topology builder.

What option do I choose once the deployment wizard starts?  I tried Install or Update Lync Server System but that did not do it. It completes succesfully but no changes occur.

it should be update Lync Server system. can you see the Archiving service is there in the Windows services? and what's the back end SQL version that you using it should be any thing upper than 2005 SP3 standard or Ent.

i assume that you have seperate SQL Backend Server and another Server to deploy the Archiving role.

Have you install the prerequisits in that Server? ie. Message Queuing. if you have it in place, and the logged in user should have rights of CSAdministrator/RTCUniversalAdmin.

If all is in place, run the deployment wizzard again and run the Update Server and carefully check the deployment steps that the wizzard is going through. it'll show you if it skips any component.

    Hi,

Did you specify the SQL store to use for your Archiving Server in Topology Builder?

IIRC, the database creation is actually done when you publish the topology after you've specified the Archiving Server and the SQL store it is to use. If no SQL store is specified for the Archiving Server, it won't deploy the database.

Yes I did specify the sql store information in topology builder. That's why i'm trying to figure out what is going on.

Should I have to export the topology and run setup on the sql server? Similar to what we do for the edge setup?

No, there is no need to export the topology run setup on SQL like you do for Edge setup.

Is there any possibility for you do deploy the monitoring Server first? if i'm not mistaken the LcsCDR and QoE metrics DBs are getting created in the monitoring server deployment and LcsLog DB is for Archiving Server.

Just went through the Monitoring server installation steps and everything completed fine. Dbs created without a problem. Next I tried the archiving server and it does the same thing. No databases are created. The publishing completes succesfully without trying to create the databases no error messages. No archiving service is created either.  The monitoring service did get created and started succesfully.

what is the SQL instance you use for the Archiving Server DB? can you open that instance using the SQL Server manager and check whether the LCSLog DB is created?

    Hi CRDNIND,

After publishing the topology, you must install Lync Server 2010 on the computer that you want to use as the Archiving Server, and then configure archiving support to complete your Archiving Server deployment.

Here is the Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Achiving Deployment Guide for reference. Please review your steps according to the section Adding an Archiving Server to an Existing Deployment. Hope it helps.

    Hi,

Please let me know if you found the solution because I have the same problem but I see the Archiving service started.

    Thanks in advance.
