Odpovědět LYNC client authentication from outside

    Hello.

We want to have our company's employees authenticate with LYNC client as follows:
    From the campus, using Kerberos.
From outside the corporation, using client certificate+PIN (with Edge in the DMZ).

Although the client certificate+PIN is mainly used by VoIP telephones, I've read that it is possible to have a user authenticate from LYNC client on a regular PC, using client certificate+PIN.

    Is if possible?
If it's possible, can you reference me to a relevant doc?

    Thanks,
    Gilad

    Hi Gilad,

PIN authentication is for Lync Phone Edition only. You can't sign in with the Lync desktop client using your phone number and PIN, you must use AD credentials.

    Thanks for your answer.

Is there a way to authenticate from a desktop client using client certificate + PIN. Maybe a different desktop client?

We aren't allowed to have the comapny's employees authenticate using their AD user+pw.

Also - If there is any other idea for authentication from outside, without the Campus AD user+pw, I'd like to know about it.

    Thanks

    Gilad

    Hi,

There is no as such method for desktop client to sign in using PIN. Microsoft Lync uses authentication with the Active Directory there is no way to skip this method and apply seperate methods for users who are inside and out side the organization.

You can only use the Microsoft Lync 2010 client on the desktop, there is no other client (except Attendant, but this is for high call volumes and works the same authentication wise as the Lync client).

In any scenario (except when using Lync Phone Edition), a user must use their AD credentials to authenticate in Lync.
