Cannot 'Select Objects' in Word 2010 Beta
-
Saturday, December 05, 2009 2:05 PMI am preparing a document in Word 2010 Beta which contains a group of autoshapes. When choosing 'Select' and 'Select Objects' from the Home Ribbon, I am unable to draw a box around the group of objects to select them all like in previous Word versions. The cursor does change into a select arrow but when you click and try to draw the box nothing happens.

@Jamie, sadly the work needed to make the object selection work as it did in Word 2007 was out of scope for this release. It's not as simple as using the same feature that existed in the last version since we upgrading our graphics/art features; the way the shapes/objects need to be selected is different than how "old" graphics/art is selectable in Word 2007.
That said, the "select object" tool that exists in Word 2010 should allow you to select individual shapes. You can select multiple shapes holding down the CTRL or SHIFT key while clicking shapes. You might ask how is this different than selecting shapes without turning on "select objects"; the answer to that would be to allow you to select shapes that are "behind" text, or more easily select rotated shapes, etc.

Wednesday, December 09, 2009 8:54 PMAs far as I can understand your question, the problem is essentially the same as described in this thread - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/word/thread/54f0e690-ac97-425e-a5d6-20a6d14bd80e. I confirm this behavior too, it seems to be a bug.
P.S. Рекомендую следить за ответами в той теме, ссылку на которую я привел выше. Вряд ли преимущественно англоязычная аудитория форума поймет этот вопрос и отреагирует на него. -

Using the Bing Translator I was able to understand this and confirm that @Alexander_B is correct - the two issues are the same.
I'm merging these threads into one.
