Locked Outlook 2010 gives "Not implemented" error message when attempting to Send/Receive with a Microsoft Exchange account

  • Tuesday, December 01, 2009 10:20 AM

Last week, I installed Outlook 2010 Beta on my computer and set it up to work with my Exchange account. For the first few days, everything was fine and I had no problems. Starting yesterday, however, I found that I was not receiving emails on Outlook from my Exchange account. Outlook gives the error message "Not Implemented" when I click on "Send/Receive". It says, however, that it is connected to Microsoft Exchange. I don't know if this is related, but since this began, on the "File" tab page I've been getting the message "Your mailbox is currently being optimized as part of upgrading to Microsoft Outlook 2010. This one time process may take over 15 minutes to complete". There is also the message "You must upgrade to the latest version of Outlook Connector to continue using this email account." I left Outlook on overnight to finish the optimization and installed the new beta version of Connector, but neither action resolved the problem, and the messages keep appearing. Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

I don't have a solution but just wanted to let you know that this happened to me when I tried to create a calendar event. So, you're so not alone and I'm hoping someone will soon let us know...in the meantime I'm going back to Outlook 2007.

I had to do a scanpst on my OST file and run the install with REPAIR to correct the issue. Bit nasty took me 6 hours but I got it back. That was a week ago. This morning the same issue. I'll give it another go.

I found a solution for this, or a very similar issue, which I've detailed on my blog . Basically, at least for me, it was caused by Office 2007 components corrupting some configuration that Outlook 2010 needed. The steps I used to resolve it were:

    1 - Uninstalled Office 2010
    2 - Rebooted
    3 - Re-installed Office 2010
    4 - Rebooted
    5 - Loaded Outlook 2010

At no point from starting point 1 to completing point 5 did I run *anything* (particularly Office components) to ensure that it had a clear run at sorting itself out.

Did the same thing last night, uninstalled, reboot, reinstalled, reboot, etc.  Worked great.  Checked it out today and it is back to doing the same thing.

Right, I uninstalled Office 2007 and 2010 and re-installed 2010. Things seem to be better (ie. pictures of contacts now work) so here's holding thumbs.

I got the same thing, but instead of wasting all the time of an un-install and re-install, i just did a repair of Outlook, through Add/Remove Programs. Then it worked like a charm. Only took 5 mins and no reboot needed.

I think the problem is with the Outlook connector. My experience shows that none of the connections are working when this error occurs (except Exchange server as the status shows connected to Exchange server). When  you click on the File menu, the window will show that upgrade is in progress and the Upgrade Outlook Connector  button will be highlighted. Though the message says the process may take over 15 minutes, the status never change even if  you click on upgrade button again and again. Even if you re-install or repair Outlook connector, it doesn't help.

Yes, repairing of Office 2010 fixes the issue, but its only temporarily if you have Office 2007 co-existing. When I started MS-Word 2007 after repairing Office 2010, the problem appeard again. I will try to attach the screenshot here

    This happened to me, TOO!

    Incredibly infuriating.

Prior to the conundrum, I started getting pop-ups asking for my Comcast email password.

THEN, I the Redirector to my Blackberry Bold 9700 quit on me.

What in the world is happening?

    Thanks!

I can confirm the behavior G K mentionned (Updating Connector message in File).  Clicking the Update now button and waiting 1 hour didn't help anything.

I repaired and then rebooted:  Didn't help.
I removed Office 2007, rebooted, repaired and then rebooted: Didn't help.
I removed Office 2010, rebooted, reinstalled Office 2010:  It fixed it.

Now I'll wait to see if it happens again.

After outlook 2010 installation it replaced outlook 2007 and hung during upgrade process. I`ve rebooted, and upgrade process finished instantly. Now for a month working with exchange is fine...

I've the same problem and unfortunately cannot go back to Outlook 2007. I tried everything but all works only temporarily. So it's a big mess - but we all knew that it is a Beta version when we instlled it.......

After a lot of trials with the installation of office 2010 beside office 2007 and without any success in solving the "not implemented" problem, I decided to make a new istallation  of office 2010 with the "upgrade" option. Of course that's an adventure to upgrade on a beta version because it overwrites the office 2007 completely.
But now the outlook 2010 is working perfectly. And I really tried all options to test it whether it's stable.

Why would CRM resolve the Outlook Send/Receive issue?

I have the same problem as all these other gentlemen. And I wouldn't have the first clue on using the CRM approach. Why can't Microsoft just fix the dang problem!!!!!

A Solution worked for me (from above): 1. Run the installer exe to Remove Office 2010. 2. reboot. 3. rerun the installer exe to UPGRADE to 2010. All worked; my outlook profile and pst etc survived the experience (much to my surprise). 4. 2007 is gonbe but as the iso and its extract are on this hard drive I can always get it back. Probably would get the issue back as well...

I have co-installed 2007 and 2010 before on a different box (also running windows 7-64); perhaps the difference was that the 2007 was installed on Vista originally (I think vista 32 but not sure). All my office suites are 32 bit...johnwerneken@netzero.net

Likely cause: thinking about my new and working outlook 2010, I see that it is 'offline' and has no 'Business Contact Manager' to reconnect to. Nothing via exchange or otherwise providing a shared database i.e. a CRM. So now I see why the CRM suggestion would work, where a CRM enviornment exists. The trouble comes from partially ignorant people like me, installing all possible modules including some that are worthless inhj my home network situation, and I suspect one of those was a CRM hook built in to my outlook 2010, that just would not let 2010 outlook operate once it had been first set up.

So I'm suggesting to Microsoft that, if the above issue is resolved either by CRM upgrade or by NOT installing CRM-active Outlook versions in non-CRM enviornments, that tyhey put some emphasis in the install choices show for the final 2010 to AVOID installing modules innapplicable to one's situation, in order to avoid such problems as the posters to this thread have faced.

Of course I could be way wrong here about cause, solution, and prevention, but the whole thread makes sense to me now.

This didn't work for me at all.

I have done all of the above, repair, ad and remove, unistall and reinstall, still my outlook gives me the same message "not implemented".

I think I am just as frustrated with myself as I am with Outlook 2010; I loaded 2010 beta on my primary computer, as I needed to get familar with Word 2010 to give a little introduction on it this weekend.

So I am frustrated with myself for trusting Microsoft Beta and for myself for loading it.

Is there anyone that can help out there??? Can I reinstall 2007 office and just get Outlook back??

I just experience the "not implemented" error following a bulk Microsoft update.  I attempted the Outlook repair option via "Remove Programs" control panel system but no louck with fixing Outlook.  I then uninstalled Outlook 2010 and subsequently Office 2010.  I rebooted then installed Office 2010 Professional Plus.  Rebooted... all office apps except Outlook loaded fine.

Where is Outlook 2010?  How do I get it back?

    Hi guys

I just had the same issue recently. The orgine of the problem is the Windows-Registry. When you upgrade from MS-office 2007 to 2010, it is NOT simply done by a uninstall of the previous version of 2010. As windows is creating various registry entries during the installation you need to clean up them first of all. Windows never cleans up registry completely durning any uninstallation!!! In my opinion it's a useless solution. The problem here is that some reg-entries are shared by 20xx-2010, but it is intransparent to get which one is affected. So for example an event may taken place that by an uninstall of the previous version it removes some shared entries: result 2010 is damaged!!! Once in the while there also is a need to clean up some left over folders containing setup infos about the previous installation. Eg.: Folder AppData/.../...

The best way to avoid any defects during the use is, to prepare your Windows as it would be virgin in relation to MS-Office before proceed installation of the newer version.

As i started handle any software on my Windows this way, it really rocks the hardware.

    Cheers

Run the "Microsoft Office Diagnostics" tool.  Search for Diagnostic in your start menu to find it.  The last item in the Diagnostic testing is "13 set up checks".  It should find one error and automatically repair.  From there, Outlook should load correctly.

I tried all the other solutions proposed above but they did not work.

Running Microsoft Diagnostics worked for me in that it identified a problem. However, when I ran Outlook again it said a file was incompatible with this version and I followed the on screen messages which seemed to go nowhere. The second time I ran Outlook it looked for a repair from the 2010 Beta single image file, which was successful.

    Hope this helps others.
