Proposed AnswerOffice 2010 TP and Windows Mobile Device Center

Hi.  HAs anyone been able to find a way to sync WinMo devices on Office 2010 TP using Windows Mobile Device Center?  I am enjoying the TP very much and this may be the only reason why I uninstall it and go back to Office 2007.  I need to be able to sync to my desktop at home.

For those not aware of this problem, when plugging in the device, outlook immediately states that you have no default mail client and cannot sync.  Outlook is definitely my default mail client and is specified so.  Clicking on mailto: email links brings up Outlook just fine.  I think this is similar to when Office 2007 was launched and the new ActiveSync.

    Any help is much appreciated.

Like many other applications that integrate with Outlook, it will need an
update on the external application. In this case; Windows Mobile Device
Center. You could ask in the pocketpc.activesync newsgroup if their has been
anything known about and update for WMDC yet. They'll probably release an
update around the Windows 7 release timeframe.

You can setup active sync on your mobile device, then your WinMo got the settings and dont say "Can't find Outlook" when you run Mobile Device Center.

    (I'm running Win7 Rc, WinMo 6.5 and Office 2010)

I dont understand what you mean by " dont say "Can't find Outlook" when you run Mobile Device Center."  Can you please elaborate on the process, step by step?  When setting up my device, Contacts, Caledar, Eail, and tasks all say "Outlook has not been installed" and will not let me check any of the sync groups.

Sounds like Mads is using a cooked rom on their device. Unless Mads has access to some of the dogfood builds floating around the main campus. In anycase, we're looking for 6.1/6.0 support in here, and not 6.5 support. Not until there's an official tech preview/beta/product launch of 6.5.

I came across this issue and it could solve if you set the option to use oulook as your default email client in the options screen in outlook.

I have the problem running 64 bit outlook and not able to synchronize my calendar and contacts anymore... it does work on 32 bits.

Method to get Windows Mobile Device Center to sync with Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 64bit

First this method only works if you are connected to exchange

    install your cert onto device

Setup active sync on windows mobile device

connect device to pc and open windows mobile device center and click ok to the no default mail client

goto setup device on windows mobile center and now the mail, contacts, email, task are ticked

this probably wont work if you are using outlook with pop3

Strange .. I have Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 64 bit and have no issues syncing.   I did download the newest Mobile Sync from Microsoft prior to syncing - but everything works fine.

Eryeal, what version of Office 2010 are you using, and what version of the mobile device center?

But which version of the two are you using...32-bit or 64-bit. The problem seems to only effect the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010

You appear to be correct. I'm running the 32 bit version and it works OK.

Problem still persists, even with Mondo TP which I just installed on a fresh 64x Win7 installation. It's really strange that no workaround has been found after months, since this is rather critical...

The 32bit version outlook syncs fine, but onenote doesn't. The sync settings option in wmdc disappeared and it doesn't seem to come back so the mobile onenote can't sync either. Anyone figured a way to fix this?

The 64-bit version of Outlook will not work with WinMo 6.1 Rumors say that WinMo 6.5 will be released with Office 2010. If that is the case, it should work then.

No, that's totally irrelevant; the problem lies on the PC side, since Mobile Center failes to find an appropriate program to syn the mobile with.

In any case, I'm running 6.5 myself :) Oh, plus, I installed the 32 bit Mondo Office and it now syncs fine.

Unfortunately, 6.5 does not fix the issue.  As I understand it, some cure parts of the activesync system are 32 bit, and Outlook 64 does not support this.  You can still sync with an exchange server, using your computer as a gateway however.
This will be fixed on the PC side with a WMDC update or via windows update.

Has anyone been able to sync between 2 sources?

Everytime I setup my exchange information it works fine, but then when I add my home PC, it breaks the exchange sync partner ship.  No more data will sync.  If I get my home PC syncing first, then add the exchaneg account, it breaks the home PC.   I want to be able to sync my exchange work calendaer and contacts with my home pc, so that I can keep them in sync.  Is anyone able to do this?

I removed outlook 64bit and reinstalled 32bit and boom everything works fine now.
I also tried to explore thing like checking the Dependency of this file WmdHost.exe which is located here C:\Windows\WindowsMobile\ and i found out that the file runs as 32bit mode disregarding the fact that i installed WMDC 64 bit and we all know that 64 bit tolerates no nonsense from 32bit. so i believe MS will ve to make updates available for WMDC 64bit to finally resolve this issue.

    Yup... Same problem here...

I guess MS will have to release an updated WMDC to work with 2010.

There are already several posts on this.  Yes, people are installing the 64 bit version (myself included) and no, the issue has not been resolved.  As per my other post, I would strongly suggest not looking to Office 2010 for a solution.  This is something that will need to be resolved with WMDC and other software. Since there have been no WMDC updates, there is no change in the current status.
