Hi,
On some of our network computers (connected to a domain) we see that the Office 2010 updates (and also the updates for Visio and Project) will not install anymore through Windows Update. When we try to install these update packages manually it returns an error 17044. According to the Microsoft Technet page Error codes for Office 2010 update packages the error message is "Installer was unable to run detection for this package.". In the eventlog of the affected computers and in the verbose Windows Installer log file, which were created during the manual installation, we can not find any clue's for the reason of these errors. We also tried to reinstall Office but this did not work.
Why won't these upates install and how can we fix these problems? The only solution we found was removing and installing office 2010.
Regards,
William Spu

Hi William,
Please check if the local installation source folder -MSOCache - has been removed from these impacted machines.
By default, the local installation source folder - MSOCache - will locate at the following path:
C:\MSOCache\All Users
Usually, the size will range from 1GB to 2GB
If you couldn't find the folder, or if it's empty, it might be manually deleted.
Office use it to run setup, update, repair, if it is missing, problem might occur when you trying to repair or update Office.
