    I download videos from Youtube using Youtube downloader.  I then insert them into powerpoint 2010.  Some videos play correctly, others freeze with "playback error." 
    Videos that failed work at embedded videos using "old embedded code" option.  I can't use embedded videos because sometimes WIFI isn't available.   All of the videos play just fine in powerpoint 2007, which I no longer have.

    Hello,

    Do you mean the videos works fine when we insert with Video from web site… option but some failed with Video from file… option?

    I am not sure the video type you were trying to insert, you can either try to convert the format to .mpg to have a test or insert .flv file as an object using the steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291875
