Following the deployment of MS Visio 2010, we received a number of complaints from our end-users stating the that the "Find Shapes Online..." feature was not functioning properly.
Steps to reproduce the problem:
- Launch MS Visio 2010,
- Create a new document (blank or based on a template),
- In the Shape Panel on the left, click on More Shapes
- Click on Find Shapes Online...
- A first error message appears:
Microsoft Visio
An error occurred while browsing files - Then, after clicking the [OK] button, a second error message appears:
Microsoft Visio
Visio internal error: #-1
Action 2359: Find Shares Online....
First try closing and reopening the file. Next try restarting Visio
Other information
After looking on the web for more information, we found the following statement on Microsoft's web site:
Find Shape feature
The Search for Shapes feature previously available in Visio enabled you to search for shapes online and on dedicated servers (as well as on your computer). These online servers made it possible to provide new shapes, but also slowed performance for all searches. Now when you click Find Shapes Online in the More Shapes menu, Visio starts a Web browser. You can download shapes from the Microsoft Download Center and other providers to use on your computer.
The Search for Shapes feature is still available to help you find Visio shapes already on your computer. Conclusion
Whether the online shapes are still available or not as a service is not the issue here. Our issue is related to MS Visio 2010 itself where a "Find Shapes Online..." button is avialble and triggers a number of error messages. From the perspective of the user experience, this is not acceptable.
Is there any bug fix available (even if it would consist in simply removing this button from the user interface)?
Thanks in advance for your help and best regards,
David

Hi David,
Thanks for posting in Visio Forum.
As my test in Vision Premium 2010, if click "Find Shapes Online", it will be redirect to following web page: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/visio-help/find-more-shapes-and-stencils-HA010369716.aspx?ver=14&app=visio.exe
Make sure you have installed the latest Service Pack, see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2510690
If you install previous version of Visio in the same computer, please try to repair Visio test if it helps, the problem may occur if some option or registry entries conflict.
You can also test in Safe Mode to check third-party Add-ins.
Best regards.
