Recentplaces does not appear when saving or opening docs where it used to in Office programs.  It does in Adobe.

    Hi,

Try to check the recent document list within the application. If it’s fine then there might some corruption in the recent items stored in ‘AutomaticDestinations’ folder.

To resolve and fix the issue, follow these steps:

    1) Browse to the location mentioned : %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

Note: the folder ‘AutomaticDestinations’ is hidden

    2) Delete all the files whose size is 1MB or more.

Note: If you cannot find any file sized 1MB or more then delete all the files. This will eventually remove the Jump Lists’ recent items for all the applications. The recent items on the Jump Lists will be re-added as the program is been used. If you delete all the files then ensure that the applications are pinned again to the taskbar.

Hi..thanks...that did not appear to work. THere were four files over 1MB, all deleted.  There are about 25 files in all there.  Any other ideas?  I have a shortcut to recent places on my desktop that is fine.  Just does not appear in OFFICE programs when saving or retrieving docs, where it is most useful!

    Hi,

Try this method, still in the folder my first reply mentioned:  %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations

Set the View to Details and in that folder and look for the following file:

    cdf30b95c55fd785.automaticDestinations-ms

Right click that file and select Delete. This will refresh that JumpList. You will need to rebuild the JumpList and re-pin all of the files.

I tried your latest suggestion, and then did a repair, and then a total reinstall of Office 2010.  Still did not work.

What shows up is Templates and Favorites at the top.

    Any other ideas?

    Hi Jonathan,

I want to make sure whether this happened to all Office applications or Word only (since you only mentioned docs)?

(I suppose you are using Office 2010, since you post the thread in Office 2010 forum.)

Close all Office applications before doing the following, remember to back up your registry before modify it.

If it is Word only, navigate to the following registry subkey

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word\Place MRU

Find the DWORD Value - Max Display, make sure it hasn't been set as zero ("0")

If this happened to all Office applications, navigate to the following registry subkey

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0

Right click on the folder named 14.0, and click Delete.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Thanks for sticking with it....but still does not work.  Note I have Windows 7 pro. And yes, all the Office programs.  (not adobe, or the shortcut to recentplaces - these work). I deleted the registry after backing up on desktop and restarting the computer.  It had the effect of clearing all the recent files, but no recentplaces appeared.  Kind of a step backwards! But no biggie.

    Anything else?
