Getting the "The email address is already in use. Please try another email address. More hints" Error

Dear Microsoft Online Services TechCenter,
I am currently getting the error "The email address is already in use. Please try another email address. More hints" when trying to use my own email account! =( (MikeR8898@gmail.com) Is there any way to deactivate this email from windows live?? I dont know if there is a bug or if somehow it is on another windows live account (it shouldn't be). I want to make a new windows live account linked to my gmail account, and so far I am unable to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.

Friday, September 07, 2012 1:41 AMI too am having this same problem. I used to use matthewcrabbe@hotmail as my msn, and decided I want to use my matthewcrabbe@gmail address, however I get this same error. Is there a way that it can be reset?

Hi,
I have the same issue. It is really frustrating. I thought to close my account and never use it anymore.... I only want to change an e-mail... It is a basic feature...

Almost, I don't have the message now, I received an e-mail telling me the change is done, but even 1 week later, I'm unable to connect with my new e-mail address...
This kind of bug don't motivate me to buy Windows 8, since Microsoft want to introduce SSO feature....
