Grrr... Why are the margins (page layout) different when files that were originally created in "Windows Microsoft Office 2007”are opened in "Office for Max 2011?"

My wife bought me an iMac for a Christmas gift. I immediately purchased Office for Mac 2011 as I have many, many Windows Office 2007 files on Excel and Word. Opening the files is no problem but there is one small problem: the Office for Mac does not maintain the exact margins as when opened in Windows 7 making page layouts out of whack. This is true for nearly every document. Any ideas as to why this is? More importantly, is there an easy fix?
