BPOS: Multifunction Device - Scan to Email
- Hello,
Looking for setup info, advice, possibilities that allow for a multifunction device to use scan to email functionality to send documents to users and also to automatically upload to SharePoint Online.
I have no local SMTP Servers, only Exchange Online.
Regards,
WS.

I think what you are looking for is an outbound SMTP server. I'm understanding your scenario to be one where you scan an item with a third party application and then you want to send the output thru a mail server.
Currently we do not have type SMTP relay access on our service. We are looking into providing it in a future release.
For now, could you save the file locally and then send as a regular message as an attachment?- Marked As Answer bySalvador R. [MSFT]ModeratorWednesday, February 25, 2009 8:26 PM

- This is a great answer (the part about providing future access).
My scenario is that I have a big multifunction copier/scanner/fax from an MS Gold Partner (http://kmbs.konicaminolta.us/content/products/models/bizhubC253.html). I've used similar with internal SMTP servers in the past without issue. As you don't allow relay, I was looking for suggestions on getting the scan-to-email working.
We're trying to have no servers in house, so I don't want to go with Konica-Minolta's recommendation to setup ArGoSoftMail internally for this device only.
Short term, I've added the option to save locally (usb key) though that's really not a great option.
Thanks,
WS.
- Don't forget that you can use most of the free email account providers to send via SMTP. Works pretty well in a pinch for MFP's and mobile devices. Just search their help for SMTP setup.
- Hi WS.,
Oki just introduced a new solution that will allow you to scan to BPOS (SharePoint online). No need to setup anything else.
Hope this helps.
Johan - Johan,
Can you please describe your solution as we are looking for something similar.
Thanks,
Richard
