Verizon RemoSync Corporate Compatible with Exchange Online?
Verizon RemoSync Corporate Compatible with Exchange Online?
- I have been digging around on the web and have spent over an hour getting bounced around on hold by Verizon's (non) tech support trying to get an answer to two simple questions:
1) Will Verizon's RemoSync - Corporate application work with Exchange Online? I have a Motorola v9m phone. RemoSync shows up as available on the "Get It Now" page, and the documentation on the Verizon web site indicates it should work on Exchange 2007 servers that support ActiveSync... but no specific mention anywhere about MS Exchange Online.
2) If it WILL work, what are the specific settings to enter? Verizon has a web page and a PDF document that show the various RemoSync screens :

So what gets entered for user name - my email address without the domain? my full email address?
How about for domain?- Edited byMike_EGS Thursday, September 03, 2009 1:50 AM

- Update for fellow non-Windows Mobile Device users: POP3/SMTP access is now enabled for Exchange Online. I can FINALLY access my email via my phone again using the Verizon Mobile Email client. No access to attachments (other POP clients may allow that), but that is fine for my case.
So - the "answer" is do not use RemoSync until Microsoft/Verizon/Remoba come out with some fix; go with a POP3 client instead.- Marked As Answer byMike_EGS Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:13 PM

thanks, but that does not address the basic compatibility question about Verizon RemoSync & Exchange online - the domain is only helpful if it will work at all.
Do you know definitively that it will work? Basically I need someone who has successfully configured a Verizon RemoSync capable phone to confirm it works, or a MS or Verizon tech who has tested it. - Still no answer to this- I spoke with Remoba (the developer of the RemoSync application) who asked me to email them the details to run up their tech support chain.
Let me add a broader question: beside RemoSync, is there ANY mail client or web browser application that will allow me to access Exchange Online email from my Motorola v9m?
Someone please weigh in here- I am going nuts without access to my email via the phone, but do not want to drop $250+ on a new smartphone/Blackberry (my plan allows a free upgrade in September). I don't really need all the push/sync features, just want to be able to launch an app manually that can pull plain text email bodies- I don't even need support for file attachments. this is what I did previously using a client called RemoMail before we cutover to Exchange Online. RemoMail does not work with Exchange Online (only supports Exchange 2003, not 2007), nor does the Verizon Mobile Web browser. - Hi,
RemoSync claims to have ActiveSync, and if they implemented it correctly, should be able to connect to our Exchange Online servers. As long as the device is using the ActiveSync protocol, our services are device agnostic.
I have heard of other 3rd party email clients for phones that do email only. RingMail or RingEMail if I remember correctly. Of course none of these 3rd party solutions are officially supported by MS Online at this point.

- Remoba tech support also said that it should work (interesting how everyone involved says "should" vice "we tested it"), so I downloaded it to my phone, entered all the settings.
It gets to "Fetching Server Version" ,locks up for about 30 seconds, the network connection icon goes off and reboots the phone. Does not work at all. This was in a known good coverage area with 3 bars of EV coverage.
Thoughts or ideas?
- I see the moderators marked this thread as answered based on the "it should work" response by Kevin Wang: the reality is that it does NOT work for me despite 10 days of troubleshooting and interacting with Verizon, Remoba, and this forum. That is the real answer until another Verizon user confirms they have successfully connected via RemoSync on their phone. So far nobody can tell me whether the application or my particular model of phone is the issue.
I removed the application from my phone because it will not connect and have basically given up, I have little hope that Remoba tech support will find a fix but they are still looking at it. If something changes I will post about it. Also - there is no RingMail or RingEmail application available from Verizon for my phone. - Got a new Verizon phone (Motorola Adventure V750) & retried getting RemoSync Corporate to connect to Exchange Online. Still will not work. So, I have to assume there was nothing specific to the previous handset, the problem must be with either the RemoSync application or some configuration on Exchange Online.
I have tried both the red001.mail.microsoftonline.com and (mycompany).mail.microsoftonline.com in the server and Domain fields; neither works. The "Domain" field within RemoSync forces an entry- it cannot be blank, but another person suggested that it needed to be blank on SmartPhones, perhaps that is the problem?
Anyone have suggestions? I am going to re-contact Remoba support. Very frustrating that NOBODY at Microsoft, Verizon, or Remoba can confirm that RemoSync has ever been tested with Exchange Online on any handset.
- Mike_EGS,
All Windows Mobile phones (Version 6.0+) should be able to connect to Exchange Online enviornment without any problem.
Do verify that when you are entering credentials in windows mobile phones, username needs to be always provided in following format:
user@domain.com

This question is not about Exchange Online working with Windows Mobile phones; it is about RemoSync Corporate (or any other available email client) running on compatible Verizon phones (non-Windows Mobile devices) such as the Motorola Adventure V750 that I now own. That application is specifically designed to allow access to corporate Exchange 2007 servers, but it simply does not work with Exchange Online. At all. I have had techs from Microsoft, Verizon, and Remoba all look at it, and it is not currently compatible, no one can give me a straight answer where the problem lies.
I just received word that Microsoft is enabling POP3 access to Exchange Online on 1 November; I will be trying that in 2 weeks. If I can get the considerably cheaper Verizon Mobile Email application to access it via POP3, I will no longer care about RemoSync Corporate. - Update for fellow non-Windows Mobile Device users: POP3/SMTP access is now enabled for Exchange Online. I can FINALLY access my email via my phone again using the Verizon Mobile Email client. No access to attachments (other POP clients may allow that), but that is fine for my case.
