Bypass Outlook Security?

Is there a way to bypass Outlook security with Standard BPOS? We currently do this by using the MSFT supplied form in the Outlook Security public folder with our on-premise implementation, but without Public Folders in the online offering, is there a way to do this?
The reason for the need is that we have an Access database that automatically generates emails, and without the ability to bypass security, the user must click "Allow" for every message that it tries to generate.

Dear community,
I am wondering where I can find a document (online or download) where I can look up information regarding the service policy.

Background:
While being on premise, customers can create their own policy (e.g. Mailbox limit, blocked file types, max size attachements, etc.). While some parameters are obviously not configurable within BPOS, some are.

Situation:
In order to govern the customer and in order to allow the customer to communicate the "new BPOS" policy down to it's end users I am looking for a document which allows me to get a list together which list all the variables (configurable or not).

Example:
- Blocked File Types: I can't find anywhere a note about blocked file types. Are blocked files types configurable by the customer/partner or are filetypes set by BPOS, or can certain filetypes be enabled.
- Archiving: What are the policies for the archiving solution, what can be tweaked to match a current archiving policy on premise, what is set instone.

The following is an interim (maybe permanent) solution to allow for catchalls and aliases.

I have this currently configured and seems to work very well. Any additional comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Pros
** This allows for only needing one exchange mailbox per user, but for very good control at the domain level for email
** Email for the users can go out through their exchange mailbox
** Additional aliases can be setup in Outlook to authenticate and go through the external provider's smtp.
** Once setup there is very little maintenance
** Works well with SPF records and allows for proper authentication
** Catchalls or as many aliases/forwardings can be setup as needed

Cons
** A few more steps to configuring your "initial" email settings
** Need an external provider - but there are some very good and low cost ones.

Summary
Uses Microsoft Online Services and an External email/alias provider
(I use Luxsci in this example as they are VERY good and have great tools/api, etc.)

This example sets up the following domains for email
domain.com The externally controlled mail Allows you to catchall, alias and authenticate/send out as needed
mail.domain.com The BPOS exchange mailbox where inbound mail from domain.com gets forwarded to

1) Initial Setup domain accounts and mx records:

A) In DNS, "INITIALLY" create the following as per your DNS setup. Example below:

MX Records:
HOST NAME          TYPE         TTL          DATA
domain.com         Mail (MX) Default     5 Mail.Global.FrontBridge.com  (may be different for other customers?)
mail.domain.com   Mail (MX) Default     5 Mail.Global.FrontBridge.com  (may be different for other customers?)

CNAME Records (used for confirming ownership):

ms?.domain.com Alias (CNAME) Default red001.mail.microsoftonline.com (The record info is given by MS to verify, may be different)

(This allows for emails to originate from mail servers from microsoft online services or luxsci)

B) In BPOS Admin console

Create domains and verify them
domain.com Type = Authoritative Inbound Messaging = Enabled (make sure is default for user creation)
mail.domain.com Type = Authoritative Inbound Messaging = Enabled

Create users:
user1@domain.com. user2@domain.com, etc.

Give users email addresses for both domain.com and mail.domain.com
- user1@domain.com (Add it first and make it the default)
- user1@mail.domain.com

2) Subsequent/Followup Configuration Changes
[Change your mx records to your external provider, in this case I am using Luxsci as an example]

A) Modify the DNS records:

MX Records:
HOST NAME   TYPE         TTL         DATA
domain.com Mail (MX) Default    10 domain.com.inbound10.luxsci.com
domain.com Mail (MX) Default    20 domain.com.inbound20.luxsci.com

B) In BPOS Admin console

Change your domain settings for domain.com
domain.com Type = External Relay Inbound Messaging = Disabled (Keep as default for user creation)

3) Forwarding, Single Sign On and Outlook Configuration

A) External email configuration

1) Forward your users
Forward user1@domain.com to user1@mail.domain.com
2) Setup Aliases as needed:
Forward sales@domain.com user1@domain.com
3) Setup catchall as needed:
Catchall user1@domain.com
4) Create a centralized smtp login or per user login for smtp authentication
Mine uses smtp auth and ssl for sending

B) Exchange Online Configuration

1) Make sure your domain.com is set to External Relay and Inbound Messaging is disabled, as above
2) Make sure that the @domain.com email address is listed as the default. This means that any email will go out as that address even though it is only accepting @mail.domain.com emails.
3) With Outlook there is nothing special to configure for sending out as your @domain.com address

C) Outlook Configuration

1) Setup your additional (Pop3) email accounts as needed using smtp authentication through your external provider
2) You will want to disable inbound email on the send-only accounts such as sales@ or billing@ if those emails are forwarding to a particular user.

SPLIT Domain - Half users at BPOS and half at another email hosting provider

I have a client who wishes to split up his organization such that half of the companies users use Microsoft BPOS - Exchange Online and the other half remain with the current 3rd party email hosting provider. The reason is because the client's number of workers fluctuate a lot; having to sign up for a BPOS license for an entire year does not make economic sense. So, the client woule like to provide pop3 email access (no charge) using a third party email provider. My question is: is this possible?

For instance, on BPOS the following users would have email accounts;

TestUser1
TestUser2
TestUser3

On the third party email acount provider, there would be email accounts for
TestUser4
TestUser5
TestUser6

If I point MX records to the third party email provider, create an email forwarders for the BPOS users (example email for testuser1@domain.com to TestUser1@domain.microsoftonline.com) external email is routed correctly. However, I worry about email routing inside the domain, for instance going from testuser1 to testuser6.

Is there any guidance you can provide?

free/busy status in calender

In my calender 1:00PM to 4:00 PM is blocked by a meetting (everyday). My colleagues could not see busy status in their outlook under my profile. So i am getting meeting multiple meetings for that period though it is blocked by another meeting.

I'd like to know if there are any plans for adding this functionality in the future as a feature request, or is the idea that Sharepoint Online should replace the functionality provided by the Outlook public folders?

I am following up on a similar request made by Oliver in March, and that is: the ability to define and implement a company-wide standardized email signature format to be applied to all users. This signature would then be applied whether the user is using Outlook from the desktop or OWA. This should be a part of Exchange, but never has been implemented.

Oliver is correct to point out that there are several third-party solutions that do this (Exclaimer, Mail Signature Manager, etc.). We're not asking for you to implement a third-party application, but to provide a similar means from within Microsoft Online.

Can I share mail folders other than Inbox?

I would like to share a sub-folder of my Inbox folder with other office staff so that when I'm out of the office they can view and respond to emails that are moved to the sub-folder via rules I've set up. Can this be done with Exchange Online? The only options I see to view another's mail folder is "Inbox"... Can't seem to find much documentation on this.

I have followed the help instructions to turn it off in each case, however i would like to remove it completely as I do not find it helpful and I pay for separate security sofeware from Norton and don't need it. Problem with welcome email adding a space to the username

When Exchange Online sends users a welcome email letting them know their account is setup there is a SPACE at the end of their email address. If they copy and paste this name out of a webpage using IE7 or through Outlook 2007 the space is copied as well. This causes their logon to fail unless they manually delete the space. I can't even imagine how may helpdesk calls this will generate if I try to convert 7000 users to this service.

I called MS support to ask why I could not access https://mail.emea.microsoftonline.com.

My questions are: 1) How often does this go down ?, 2) What backup plans and SLA agreements are microsoft prepare to enter into with their customers? 3) Related to 2, if we did go live with Online Exchange is it possible to purchase a much more resiliant service?

Our IT director was quite happy to look into this further until today so how can I convince him?

Hi,

I have been sent the welcome e-mail from my administrator for a new Microsoft Online Services account. I have downloaded and signed into the Microsoft Online Services Sign In application but I cannot use Outlook 2007 for e-mail. All online resources say that the Sign In application should configure Outlook for me but this doesn't seem to have happened. Selecting 'E-mailing and Calendering' from the application launches OWA instead of Outlook 2007.

Please can someone advise how I can manually configure Outlook 2007 to use the Microsoft Online Services through the Microsoft Online Services Sign In application?

Outlook 2010 vs OWA - differences in posts quantity

Today I moved a lot of posts among 2 folders in my Outlook 2010. In this moment in Outlook 2010 I see message that all my folders are up to date.
But when I go to my Outlook.com (outlook live beta) I see differences - like not update.
I understand why? It is all on Exchange 2010 (outlook.com). Do you know why? And how repair it?

Checking Spam Quarantine

I've seen some conflicting information here and in the documentation regarding a user's ability to check and manage their spam and filtering configuration. Specifically, one response to the question of how to check the quarantine on demand suggested a notification is sent right away and another response suggested notifications are sent in three day intervals. Does anyone know what the real answer is?

I'm concerned if it's the latter - I don't really want to have to tell my boss after we switch that "sorry the important email from the client didn't show up until three days later in your list of 300 other suspected spam messages...maybe you should tell everyone to call when they send emails to make sure you got it". In many scenarios, it's important to be able to check if certain messages got caught up in the spam filters on a regular basis. I've seen several cases where legitimate mail servers end up on blacklists or get filtered inadvertently.

I am in process of migrating my email to Microsoft Online. I am currently using Lotus Notes and have no Exchange in my enviroment. In preparation for the migration I have extended my active directory using Exchange 2007 R2. I installed the Exchange 2007 Management tools and still can't see the Exchange Tabs/Fields in Active Directory Users and Computers. How can I get these tabs to show up in Active Directory Users and Computers.

Hello everybody

Is there a possibility to get activated users back from BPOS on my exchange server? The problem is that I activated Users in BPOS which are still on my own exchange server. Now, all Users which are already work on BPOS can't send e-mails to this activated users, because BPOS thinks, that these users are internal users and so the e-mails won't go out of the BPOS server. These e-mails will go to the inbox of the BPOS which the users won't see.

From my experience all Palm OS phones do not work with Exchange Online (BPOS). This includes the 650, 700p and 755. The 700wx might work but I didn't test it. The Treo Pro works.

My question is: Does anybody know if the Palm Pre works? I don't have one and am not about to spend the money just to test it.

I have a local AD domain. The AD DNS namespace is different from our public DNS namespace. I've registered and verified our public DNS name in Exchange Online.

I plan on using DirSync but need you guys to verify if I understand the sync process correctly.

1. DirSync will sync to Exchange Online all AD users regardless if their email address field is filled in or not. Correct?
2. All users initially show up in Exchange Online as disabled. If their AD email field was blank, the default routing domain (user@xxx.microsoftonline.com) is used to for their username. If their AD email field was filled in and the DNS suffix matched a domain validated in Exchange Online, then their username will be their email address. Correct?
3. The only real reason to fill in the AD user's email field is to keep the email column in the GAL from showing user@xxx.microsoftonline.com as the email address for disabled users. For enabled users I would simply change their username from (user@xxx.microsoftonline.com) to a real email address during the activation process.

Am I understanding all this correctly?

My small business is considering making the switch from POP-based mail to Exchange Online. I searched through these forums and checked the FAQ but I can't locate the answers to a few simple questions.

1) With Exchange Online, can we setup an alias for one e-mail address (i.e. info@mycompany.com) that will forward messages to several of our addresses so that the same message reaches three or four people? If so, is this is a relatively simple setup and can I do it myself or do I have to rely on MS support to do it for me?

2) We currently have an address that functions only to respond to messages we send to it. I relize that sounds odd but we are a small IT firm and we use this address to test customer's e-mail accounts while at the same time providing us with their e-mail address for billing purposes. So if I send a message to: mailtest@mycompany.com, I want to receive an auto-reponse to indicate that the message was received (and as a form of testing both sending and receiving) but also keep the message that was sent to it. Is this possible without additional expense? If so, can I set this up myself or no?

3) We current have two employees that answer our phones and set appointments for us. We would like for them to be able to see and mnake changes to everyone's calendars in real-time. I believe that's possible based on my past experience with Exchange but just want to confirm that this is the case with Exchange online. Would it also be possible through the Deskless Exchange online or does this require OWA Premium as opposed to Light?

4) We also need to have access to a company-wide shared contact list that includes all of our clients. Is this simple to do within Exchange online? Is this created as a public folder or do we choose one person's contacts and simply share those contacts to everytone else? Again, would these shared contacts or public folders be accessible via Deskless account or does it require OWA Premium?

4 a) Suppose we are a bit behind the times and a couple of us use Palm Pilots (yeah, ewww) currently to synchronize with Outlook for Calendar and contacts. Is is possible to synchronize a Palm Pilot with a shared or public contact list as opposed to the one that an individual has by default? In other words, when configuring the Palm software to sync with Outlook, can I simply select the public contacts folder instead of the contacts folder in personal folders for synchronization? Does it work the same way for my calendar?

5) I have no experience with Sharepoint. Would any of these items best be implemented there or are we fine with the vanilla Exchange Online service? If Sharepoint is the better option, how does that affect our need to synchronize with mobile devices such as the archaic Palm Pilot vs. WM6, Blackberry or Droid?

6) As a follow-up to the previous question, I haven't seen any mention as to whether or not anyone has gotten their Motorola Droid ro HTC Droid Eris working with MSOS Exchange Online....does anyone have any info regarding that?

Our Exchange Online service is still not working, I submitted a service request just a few minutes ago, is there anything else I can do at the moment?

Outlook is reporting: unable to connect, and Outlook Web Access is reporting after login in: a 500 error, unexpected response.

I hope you guys are aware of the problems, or I hope that we are the only one with problems, anyway it would be very nice if it gets fixed anytime soon.

I'm trying to put in a web service endpoint into visual studio having just setup exchange online. I wanted to work with the EWS Managed API 1.0. Anyway
my domain here is something like cambridgewater.emea.microsoftonline.com. A document I found says it should be:

https://name.mail.microsoftonline.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx (where I assume name is cambridge water)

but this does not exist? Is this wrong ? or do I have to enable it in some way?

We have a distribution list labeled level1@somecompany.com which gets forwarded to our blackberries with level1 notification. I'd like to know if there is a way to change the delegate of this account and have the SPAM Quarantine Notification sent to a different address in our organization?

This would avoid getting level1 notifications to all our blackberry users during the middle of the night

I have had a good look through the microsoft.com/online and other information including these forums and cannot find the additional cost per GB for extra exchange mailbox storage.

Also I read that the storage quota was by company not per mailbox is this correct?
