Absolutely. This is one of the value propositions for SharePoint Online. Using SharePoint Online will ensure you are able to keep current on the latest and greatest version of SharePoint without having to buy new software.

SharePoint Online 2010 will be available some time after SharePoint Server 2010 is released. We are not yet announcing the relase date.

In addition, customers will be presented with options for when their accounts are upgraded to 2010 throughout at least a year-long window.

    Hi Troy,

Do you know if the BPOS version of 2010 will be identical?  If not, do you have a listing of items that wont be included in the BPOS version?

    Thanks,
    jw.

We are working hard to get as close to the on-premises feature set in SharePoint Online as possible for the 2010 release. At the SharePoint Conference last week we announced the high-level feature set, but I can't attach slides and unfortunately only conference attendees can see the presentations from the show.

So, while it may be a bit hard to read, I have extracted that slide into text form and included it below.
