Are there any info which SQL Server version (2005 or 2008) is used for SharePoint Online Services??!
Question is about understanding how good is it in term of locking the tables for large lists. As we know SharePoint provides reasonable performance when we show up to 2000 items in lists for SQL 2005, because SQL starts locking the table for more than 2000 items.
If I understand it correcty SQL 2008 performs a little bit better it terms of locking tables and we are able to get reasonable performance up to 5000 items in lists with SQL Server 2008

But what version of SQL Server is used for Online Services?!

    Hi Michael,

We don't guarantee any specific version of SQL Server and it is always subject to change as appropriate. So, instead of committing to a version, I'll answer the underlying question. SharePoint Online does have a 2,000 item limit for lists.
