Search function does not work
Search function does not work
- We have uploaded Word and Acrobat (.PDF) documents into a document library in SharePoint Online. The seach function does not work -- it produces no results for searches of keywords found either in the titles or the bodies of the documents. Any suggestions for how to get the search function to work? We called Tech Support, but so far, they have not been able to resolve the problem. Thanks!

- Thanks, Myles. Microsoft confirmed that the problem is on their end, with the server farm that houses our collection. No ETA for fixing the problem, but at least we isolated the source. Thanks for your help.

- Hi CSantomassimo. I have found it can take up to 24 hours for SharePoint Online to index word and PDF documents. How long has it been since you uploaded the documents?
Other things to check: ensure that your document library has been set to be included in the search results by looking at the advanced settings (it should be by default). Also note that search results are security trimmed so if you don't have rights to view the documents you won't see the search results.
Hope this helps.

http://twitter.com/mjthinkscape - Thanks for your post. All of the items that you mentioned are enabled. The users have perrmission to see the docs, and the docs have been in the Library for more than a week. I am still stuck.
- Hi CSantomassimo. Check with support if the indexing service is running. This recent post indicates that the indexing service can be left in a stopped state after an upgrade (check the second to last comment): http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onlineservicessharepoint/thread/55e745b9-353f-40d3-961a-d3dce57e0280
