Is there a way to set a time limit for a checked out doc? I'm wondering if I can set it up to check in automatically after, say, 6 hours.

Search consolidation between BPOS and an On-Premise Moss environement

I would like to provide a polished consolidated search capability not only across our BPOS environment but include our On-premise platfrom too. Is it possible for bpos to index a external systems as well or is it possible to have the op-premise solution agreegate the search responses for both platfroms.

I have SharePoint Online and Office Ultimate. I cannot successful upload slides into the SharePoint site. The problem comes with the following error message:

https://address.microsoftonline.com/SubScript/Nameofsite/ is not accessible. Either this location does not exist or you might not have permission to use this network resource.

It does exsist and I own the site... Microsoft is having a very hard time with this as well.

Data Connection fails

I have tried to connect to 2 SQL Databases at different ISPs. One is a shared server at the ISP for my company site (web.com) and the second is a dedicated SQL 2005 server at my client's ISP. In both cases I get the following message: Server Error: An error occured while retrieving the list of Databases from : The server for the datasource returned a non-specific error when trying to execute your query. Check the format and context of your query and try again. If the problem persists, contact the server administrator.

I chose use custom connection string and it looks like this (from my DotNet web.config)

server=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;database=MyDate;User ID=my;password=mypassword

Does SharePoint Online block connections? Do I need a different or modified connection string?

Workflow: Pause for Duration SPD Action not resuming WF actions

Currently, I'm developing a SPOnline workflow trying to automatically assign a task monthly, quarterly, or yearly based on a drop down box value. From what I've been testing, the pause for duration, set at 5 minutes, seems to hang and does not resume the workflow after pausing. I have tried removing the pause for duration action and have had a successful task assignment. Heres how it flows currently with the problem:

Step	Action
1	Workflow Initialized
2	Determine Month/Qtr/Year based on drop down list
3	Pause based DDL value (This is where it hangs)
4	Set document approval status to Pending
5	Assign a task
6	Set document approval status to Completed

No matter what time interval I set it to, it seems to hang and not complete the workflow or go to the next task. I've tried the following steps:

Debugging the workflow by removing pause for duration step
Changed regional settings to match server
Broken up workflow actions into multiple steps and vice versa (seeing if pause needs to be seperated out)
tried 5,10,15,30 min and 1 hour pauses

Any suggestions on what to look at or if Pause for Duration is not working properly? Thanks!!

I have searched this forum as best I can and connot find a solution to a simple problem. Opening sites in a new window from the SPO main page.
I have tried using the oh so great source editor and that is a no go, simply adding "tagret=_new" does nothing besides make the changes unable to be saved.
so any insight is greatly appreciated in this. I currently have about 10 users asking for this change so I am open to a few suggestions.

Intermittent I/O error when using access 2007 runtime to connecting to data in sharepoint lists

Hi,
We have been experiencing intermittent i/o errors on various links to sharepoint online lists from within an Access runtime version of the database we use to track expenses.
It seems that the links within Access keep dropping. I have had to re-install the runtime version of the database to over come this problem.
Has any body else encountered this? and is there a reliable method of stopping this from happening?

I have a user who has added a new colum and webparts to the sharepoint homepage, he is the only one who can see the changes though. what should be done so everyone can see the changes? this is sharepoint 2007 hosted by MS through their online services

I'm a bit surprised that the Microsoft Online service doesn't support it's own developed and deployed SharePoint templates. I've requested support add them to my SharePoint server but was denied. It seems obvious to me that Microsoft would deploy it's own template library on the SharePoint Online service...but that's not the case. Please bump if you feel the same.

SharePoint Designer workflow emails sometimes fail to send

Hi. I have had no luck following this up with support so posting to this group for visibility in the SharePoint Online team :)

I have built a SharePoint Designer workflow that sends a notification email when a new item is created on a list. Generally this works fine, but about 20% of the time I find that the email fails to send. I get this error message reported by the workflow:

The e-mail message cannot be sent. Make sure the outgoing e-mail settings for the server are configured correctly.

After some research I thought this was due to me using a SharePoint Online Group in the To field: so I changed the To field to a hard coded email address... but I still got the same problem periodically.

There is definitely something odd going on within the guts of SharePoint Online. Please can someone investigate this?

Cannot export a SP list as a template including the contents

I have a SP site from which I am unable to export a SP list as a template Including the contents. The "Including Content" check-box is inactive and cannot be selected.

Has anyone encountered this issue/might know where the problem is and hopefully can come up with a solution?

'(407) Proxy authentication required' error with MSO DirSync tool

Hello,

I'm getting the following error during the first step of a DirSync configuration.
- DirSync tool error msg: 'Configuration Error. Failed to locate synchronization endpoint.'
- Windows Application Event Log: 'The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy authentication required'
The IE configuration involves a configuration script (.pac file).

I run the 'Diagnostic & Logging Support toolkit' and everything seem fine (DNS, name & port access, etc).

As a result, apparently the tool (DirSync) is trying an anonymous connection while the environment is configured with an authenticated proxy.
What's the best way to get arround that?

Exporting a SP list to a Spreadsheet TOGETHER WITH the attached files

I am in need to export a SP list to a Spreadsheet, but when I do so, I don't get the files, that are attached against almost every item on the list.

Can anyone please come up with an idea of whether this is possible at all, and if not, can you please advise on a workaround?

MS Word 2007 -- how can you format the main body of text in Word? Is there a way of command Word to do this, rather than adjust margins?

I am preparing an article for submission to a publisher who requires the main body text is 118mmx 170mm, which does not include running headers and footnotes. Is there a simple way to do this in MS Word 2007? The fully physical size of the page (when published) including all margins will be 148mm x 210mm. Is ther a simple way of doing in this in MS Word 2007?

How to connect sharepoint online to exchange online ?

In particular we like to connect our tasks and the agenda of our sharepoint online to the exchange online so that we can consult these tasks and agenda in outlook as well.

Also I noticed in the Outlook Web Access that there is a possibility to share sharepoint documents or at least consult the documents added to our sharepoint site. However it's unclear to me how this works ... .

While I'm at it, how can we add emails to a certain sharepoint site. For example, if we have a site for a particular project and we have incoming emails regarding it, how can we add it to this sharepoint site ?

Update : I have found the answer(s) on msdn (in bold below)
Note: One nice thing I have seen is the sdk API pages on msdn have a text for each class/method/member that says "Available in Sandboxed Solutions: Yes/No " -- How cool is that!

1) Does anyone know if RunWithElevatedPrivileges in supported in sharepoint online (2010) for full trust code(non-sandbox) ? I have a requirement where a user will have to create a subsite but cannot give createsubsite or self service creation permission to him because that will allow them to create subsites beneath that site and so on..

Why OOB Workflows are Deactivated by default in Sharepoint online

There are 5-6 OOB workflow available in SharePoint Online but only Three-State WorkFlow is Active. Other Workflows are deactivated by default and there is no way to activate the remaining workflows.

Sharepoint Online. are all the features in the Trial version the same as the full version?

Hello everyone,

We are currently evaluating the trial version of Business Productivity Online Standard Suite taking a good look at Sharepoint Online. Are there some features not enabled in the trail version or does the trial version provide everything that the paid version includes?

I ask this question because the Site Collection workflows show that I have the Three-state, Approval, Collect Feedback, Collect Signatures, Disposition Approval, Translation Management workflows available, but the only one that is active is the Three-state workflow. Is there a way to make some of the other workflows active? Am I missing something

I have tried going into the settings of a document library and tried to add a workflow, but the only workflow listed is the Three-State. I have been able to created a custom workflow in Sharepoint Designer, but I would really like to try the Approval and Collect Signatures workflows.

Otherwise the trial version has been great to play around with and has been great to work with in our evaluations.

We are in the process of migrating from WSS v2 to WSS v3 and MOSS 2007. Templates have been created and hardware issues have been reviewed but no migration has occured yet. We have @ 60000 users. The question has been asked should we wait for SharePoint 2010, can anyone give me feedback on this?

We recently rolled out a 50 user Sharepoint Online site to a client. When they access the site they are prompted for a username and password which they enter. But then each time they access an Office document in the site they are prompted for the username and password again which is obviously pretty frustrating and time consuming. There's no problem access pdf etc, just Office docs.

Hello,

I have uploaded a few Microsoft Access databases in Microsoft Sharepoint Online. When I select these databases in Sharepoint, it gives me two options: I can view the database online or I can modify it. To modify the database I first have to download it, modify it on my computer and then export it again to Sharepoint. This takes a lot of time. Isn't there a way to modify the database online at Sharepoint and then save it?

Special char not displayed correctly in Sharepoint RSS feed

Hi everybody, I've got this issue on my company's sharepoint portal:

RSS enabled document's library
One user has " ' " char in his last name
When this user upload a document to that library, in the RSS feed his last name has no " ' ", but there is a string: "&# 39; " (without the middle space)

This should be an UTF coding problem, right?

From the source of the RSS page:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> (first line)

And for every item published by the user I've got:

<author>Xxxxx Z&#39;Yyyyy</author> (where correct user name is: Xxxxx Z'Yyyyy)

Anyone knows how to fix this?

Search function does not work

We have uploaded Word and Acrobat (.PDF) documents into a document library in SharePoint Online. The seach function does not work -- it produces no results for searches of keywords found either in the titles or the bodies of the documents. Any suggestions for how to get the search function to work? We called Tech Support, but so far, they have not been able to resolve the problem. Thanks!

I am using Sharepoint online web portal and i am an administrator of this site .
I am new to online services becoz i dont know wat exactly rights are required for online MOSS sites.
OK I move to my problem that i am facing on this site
When i go to the link "Site and Settings" ,I have able to create new Top Link Bar here i type "\Test.aspx" in Webaddress bar and "Test" in a description.When i create a new link its added to my Site as a Tab but its not working and give an error that "The Web page cannot found" ,also " HTTP 404 not found is written: on the Tilte bar.
Also i have tried so many time by editing address bar in differnt address like "full website address\test or test.aspx"

Ending a recurring calendar event without losing modifications

Hi.

A customer is using Sharepoint Online as a way to schedule lessons for instructors. Most of these are weekly recurring events. In some cases, a studen cannot make the lesson on a certain day and is rescheduled for a different day/time. They do this by opening the item and deleting it. However, when the student is finished, the recurring event is ended by opening the series and insterting an "end Date" to the recurrence. When this happens, all of the modifications made to the recurrence are ignored and the original entries are put back in to the series.

Is there a way to not have this happen? If "Bob" is moved from Tuesday to Thursday one week and that recurrence is ended, they want that Thursday appointment to remain on Thursday, not get moved back to Tuesday.

Site Structure and Cross site lists

Hi,
I have been asked to create a collaboration site such as:

top level
    - Customer 1
          - Project A
          - Project B
    - Customer 2
          - Project C
          - Project D

At each level the lists of contacts, agenda, announcements etc should include the levels below. i.e. The agenda at the top level should include all announcments whereas the agenda list for Customer 1 should only show the combined entries for Project A and Project B.

Is there an easy/recommended way of doing this with standard stuff?

Cross-site collection data sources

I notice that SharePoint Designer does not support data sources that are cross-site collection. When I add a site collection URL to the data source none of the site's lists or document libraries appear.

So, I tried a different approach. I created a data source that calls the Lists.asmx web service on the site collection. But this didn't return any items... until I set the username password manually on the data source. Then I was able to retrieve the lists items from a site collection that is different to the one I am in.

The good news is I can now do cross-site collection data access.

The downside to this is that the credentials of a user have to be hard coded in to the data source, and, the context of who you are logged in as is lost.

Why does SharePoint Online not recognise who you are automatically and use your context when accessing data in other site collections from the same Online Services account?

requirements for sharepoint online users

When I try to add a user into sharepoint online it says it has to check "the directory" and then it decides they
are not in it so I can't add them. What directory is it checking? I would ideally like to add users by specifying
their email addresses (which are unique to this institution and not hotmail or whatever) and they are not in any
directory. But sharepoint won't let me do that. Is there any way around this? Anyway what directory is it
talking about?

We are currently using MOSS entreprise 2007 and want to migrate to an more robust infrastructure. Microsoft Online services seem interesting but, how to be sure that the services supports our current MOSS applications.

We customized a standard template, we use the Designer to developp custom workflows, we do cross site search, we plan to use infopath, we developp custom features, webparts, we buy third party components which impact the web.config, we active and customize the My sites, we add profil properties, etc.

In fact, is there some restriction to use the central administration, Designer, edit the config files, etc.

What's the version of SQL Server is used for Online Services?

Are there any info which SQL Server version (2005 or 2008) is used for SharePoint Online Services??!
Question is about understanding how good is it in term of locking the tables for large lists. As we know SharePoint provides reasonable performance when we show up to 2000 items in lists for SQL 2005, because SQL starts locking the table for more than 2000 items.
If I understand it correcty SQL 2008 performs a little bit better it terms of locking tables and we are able to get reasonable performance up to 5000 items in lists with SQL Server 2008

But what version of SQL Server is used for Online Services?!

Search scopes not working in BPOS

Hi,

We have some site collections set up in the BPOS environment and we are having troubles with the search function. The search doesn't return anything.
We have some search scopes set up, but they return nothing, eg:

Search Scope - Safety Site
Rule - All Content
Item count - 0

Search Scope - Safety Library
Rule - Folder = https://[oursite]/Tools%20Library/
Item Count - 0

The tools library contains around 1000 documents.

I have the 'Safety Site' Scope as the default scope in the search dropdown. When we search using either the Safety Site or Safety Library scopes, the search returns nothing.

Is there somthing we are missing?

Hi,

When using the advanced search we can use the property section to narrow our search, in a regular MOSS installation you can create managed properties that will be displayed in this section.

How can I create a site column that gets displayed in the advanced search in sharepoint online?
