Is there a quick way to test/validate the IM notifications in SCOM 2012. I tried using the tool documented in the following blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/momteam/archive/2009/05/19/notifications-test-tool.aspx

However, I did not have any luck with the tool on my Management Server. It appears it is looking for me to install the SDK for SCOM 2012, but the blog does not mention that as a pre-req.

There must be another way I can quickly test this.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Brian

In my management group I always have a test rule sitting in the background.

Just create a small rule that points to event 900 (for example) + put your IM notification on this rule and force the event on the server with eventcreate.exe.

I choose a rule because it always alerts when there's an occurence of the detected event...

If you need more assistance please do not hesitate to reply.

It's doing common things uncommonly well that brings succes.

You can also refer to the following method to test the IM notification:
