I'm looking for some way to put a server in maintenance mode via email. If I could do something similar to:
______________________
to: scom@mydomain.com
from: someone @ my domain
Subject: servername
body:
30 (for minutes)

I'm currently stuck in a exchange 2003 environment, updating to 2010 later this year. SCOM 2012 is implemented. i'd rather not use opalis that i've read a little about. We will be configuring Orchestrator later this year, but I was hoping to find a trick to perform this sooner. Any suggestions out there?

You can do it with orchestrator.

Hi
As you mention in your post and Bob confirms, Orchestrator would be an option. But there is no out of the box "Exchange Connector" that will do this for you.
A "Private Cloud" solution would be to expose this a maintenance mode service request in Service Manager 2012 portal with permissions applied as to who could view it and any approvals that would be required. Then have this drive an Orchestrator workflow.
Cheers
