Unanswered Regarding performance widget (performance objects) for custom dashboard

    Hi,

I'm making a custom dashboard, I'm trying to use the performance widget for a netapp volume, but the performance objects are not available and only see "(All)" on the options (see screenshot).  When I create the dashboard it shows the widget with empty information.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Hi

Might be checked already, but did you make sure your target is correct ?

    Thanks

    Hi Lenya1,

Yes, I already checked, when seting the performance widget I select the volume as the object, but the performance counters don't appear. If I take a look on the netapp volume dashboard and open the performace dasboard of the volume it is working well:

    Hey Carlos

Try this out, i have had this before on some of our custom MP's and found the one resource i had on the issue before.

    Try this link from Alex

    http://777notes.wordpress.com/2012/12/12/scom-2012-custom-dashboards-performance-counters-are-not-available/

    Hope this helps

    Thanks

    Thanks Leonya1,

When I try to run this query:

    Select Id_6B1D1BE8_EBB4_B425_08DC_2385C5930B04 from MT_ManagementGroup

    I get this error message:

    Msg 208, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

    Invalid object name 'MT_ManagementGroup'.

    Regards.

    Hi Carlos

Apologies, forgot it is OpsMgr 2012

I just tried this query on mine, had to change a few things and it worked :) try this query for the second query.

    SELECT      Id_2B189F92_85D5_9DE6_46D2_82339B06CFB0
    FROM         MT_Microsoft$SystemCenter$ManagementGroup

If it you get an error with regards to the column name then just edit the query in design editor & select the column "Id_number" obviously replacing the number with whatever is in your column.

    Hope you come right

    Thanks

    Leon

    Thanks Leon,

This time it worked, but the results are the same with the difference that on the first query the letters are lowered case and the second one have them as capital letters, so my question is if I still have run the third query to update the GUID and for the one with the lowered case or the one with the capital letters.

    Regards.

    Hi Carlos

Mine is also the same with lower & upper case so i doubt it will make a difference, but lets try something, try running the third query with the GUID of the second query which would be the lower case one then follow the rest of the link i sent you.

I will try see what other info i have.

    thanks

    Thanks Leon,

First I'll make the respective backups, then I'll run the third query and follow the rest of the instructions, probably by the night I'll come back to you with the results.

    Regards.

    Carlos

Was this an upgrade from OpsMgr07 by any chance ?

    Thanks

No, it was a fresh scom 2012 rtm installation, now we have it with sp1 that was installed later.

    Carlos

Not sure why it would then be giving you the problem, you said you were on the latest updates so OpsMgr 2012 SP1 UR1 & everything else is updated and your GUID's are exactly the same.

Well as you said, backup your environment and try the third query & maybe restart all services as in the link as well as start your console with the "clearcache" option.

Also are all your management packs up to date and there are no other errors in your "Operations Manager" event logs ?

How many management servers do you have ?

Sorry for the 21 questions but it would help to know a little more about the environment.

    Regards.

    Hi Leon,

Don't worry for your questions, I have just one management server, yes management packs are updated, also on this case we are using the netapp OnCommand Plug-In 3.1 for Microsoft, I didn't find anything on the event viewer.

Not sure what the issue could be, it's a funny one. Especially if your GUIDS are the same from the queries. I wouldn't say that the link would be the fix but it is giving you all of the same symptoms. I see the same issue brought up on a few other forums where they were not able to resolve it. Maybe just try the link I sent you & use the GUID from the second query, obviously after a backup it might just kick start something, also another thing is that it could be an issue with the NetApp MP itself. Can you see any other counters from other systems/rules, so if you maybe try a performance dashboard for another object in another MP? I can try get the MP to test in my Dev environment. Regards.

I made the test with another performance counters from another MPs and their worked well, also I tried with more performance counters from the netapp MP and some worked other ones don't.

    Ok thats good progress then

The ones that do not work when tested, could you perhaps check & make sure that they are not disabled by default or maybe an override is set, maybe check a working one in relation to one that is not working ?

    Thanks

    Leon

    Hi Leon,

I made the review between one performance counter that is not working on the custom dashboard and another one which works well, on both cases the rules don't have overrides and are enabled by default:

Hi Ok that's fine, but the one that is working is in another MP & not from the same MP. I cannot remember but did you test a rule/counter from the same MP that works. If so its a funny as the dashboards are working & it cannot be the issue from the link I gave you where there could be different GUIDS as some are working. So please check from the same MP. Regards.

It seems that netapp performance counters comes from 2 MP: OnCommand Data ONTAP and System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring, I have been able to show all the performance counters from the OnCommand Data ONTAP MP, but not with any performance counter from the System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring MP, so for example:

When creating a dashboard with a performance widget  and if a want to show a performance counter for a netappcontroller I'll be only able to show the performance counters that comes from the OnCommand Data ONTAP MP, the rest of the performance counters will not appear to be selected as an option to show on the widget. Regards

Hi Yes when creating the dashboard you will not be able to select multiple objects from different MP's when selecting the specific object if I remember correctly. Try add the one from the one MP on the one widget & then adding the other on another separate widget area. So selecting for example a 4 dashboard view for place for 4 different dashboard views, then add one from your one MP on one view then another on the other view, make sense ? Regards.

Hi Leon, I understood but I think that was not what I tried to say, let me try to explain again what I found:

For example  if I do a right click on a netapp controller and select the performance view I'll see all the performances counters those coming from  OnCommand Data ONTAP MP and the ones from the System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring MP,  so if I make a custom dashboard with a performance counter that will be one from the System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring MP, it will not appear as an option to select, just the ones that comes from the OnCommand Data ONTAP MP, and in the case of the screenshot of my very first comment (for a netapp volume) it does not shows any performance counter to select because the performance counters comes from the System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring MP.

    Regards.

Makes sense, I am not sure what the problem could be, it does seem like an issue with creating custom dashboards but at the same time you can create a dashboard with other performance counters.

Unfortunately i do not have the OnCommand MP to test with.

I will try see what extra info i can get for you.

    Regards.

    Thanks Leon,

I'll also search for more info about this issue. At this point I think that the issue is related with the System Center Operations Manager Data Access Service Monitoring MP so I'll seach for documentation about it.

    Regards.

Hi Carlos Perfect, if I find something else I will definitely let you know. Give me a shout when or if you find something. It does go more in the direction of the specific MP rather than an issue with your setup. Regards.
