SCOM for beginners?

Howdy,
I'm just looking to know what resources I could use to try to learn SCOM from scratch. Most of the websites I find only talk about new features of 2012 but I haven't found any that can take someone step-by-step, who has never seen SCOM before, and just teach me the basic as to how it works.
Can anyone recommend any sites, videos, books, etc hat I could use to learn how it works? We have SCOM2012 at work, so I don't need to know how to install it, and I've been asked to help out when I have some free time since the main admins are swamped with new projects. Unfortunately this means they don't have time/bandwidth to offer me any training at all so I'm basically on my own.
Thanks for any advice!!
Mike

Hi Mike
There are some technet labs which might help:

Operator Roadmap: http://technet.microsoft.com/library/hh769766.aspx
Much of this still applies to SCOM 2012 - http://blogs.technet.com/b/kevinholman/archive/2010/09/02/operations-manager-101-download.aspx
Cheers

I collected a lot of links in my SCOM overview link blog.
It has some basic links in there to get you going and also some nice in depth articles when you have progressed in your knowledge.
You can find it here: http://scug.be/dieter/2012/12/30/scom-2012-overview-link-blog/
It's doing common things uncommonly well that brings succes. Check out my SCOM link blog: SCOM link blog
