    Hi guys,

I have users with an additional mailbox attached to their profile.
When they try to access the mailbox by starting Outlook and choosing the necessary profile they are presented with the following error:

File access is denied. You do not have permission required to access the file C:\PROGRA~2\Office14\email@address.com – name.ost.

These guys are local admin on their respective machines.
Are there any Outlook settings which could cause this?

    Environment:
    Exchange 2010 SP1
    Clients use Outlook 2010 x86
    Client OS – Windows 7 x64

Please let me know if there is any other information required.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    Locust12

The path where the .OST is being created is a bit bothersome as I would expect UAC under Vista/Windows 7 to kick in and prohibit local admins from creating files under "c:\program files" (or c:\program files (x86))*.

    * Basically UAC would make everything read/execute.

Yep disabling UAC allows for the mailbox to be opened while running under the users profile.

    Thanks for the information.

I know this a bit old, but since I've been throw the same problem and finally solved it and would like to share the solution...

You don't need to disable UAC bucause it really important in securing your PC...

All what you have to do is running outlook as administrator and to do this go to start menu, navigate to outlook, right click it, choose properties, then compatability, Click the "Run This Program as an Administrator" check-box.

I dont see how this is an answer. Disabling UAC or running an app as Administrator goes against Microsofts Best Practices. Why is an OST being places under 'Program Files' in the first place?

In my case Cache Mode isnt even checked...

    Hi everyone,

My company switched to the Office365 service during the last weekend. I ran into the same problem only for users running Windows 7 and Office 2010.

The only solution I've found for this problem was to delete their Office365 profile, restart the computer and recreate the profile. Once I did that, their OST file was created at the proper location (C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\).

    Regards,

    Ben

    Hi,

I know this an old thread,, but did you check if the file marked as Read Only in the file attribures?

If yes, clear the check and try to use the file again..
