User Logoon Acount Field in PWA 2010

I have inactive resources with old user logon accounts that need to be reused. I need to delete them from the inactive users.
I tried removing the "User logon Account" using both PWA and Pro and neither worked. I would get an error on Pro about "invalid user account" and could not save.
In PWA I have unchecked "Resource can logon to project server" and removed the "User Logon Account" when I go back into all the accounts where I unchecked "Resource can logon to Project Server", they are all checked again and the "User Logon Account "is still there.
It seems to be a loop that I cannot get out of. Can I make the "User Logon Account" not required?
Thanks,
Regina

Hi Regina,
I have come across this same problem and unfortunately there is no was to clear the user login account. Even via code through the PSI will not work.
From my experience, you have two choices:
1. Re-activate the account - This of course assumes it is the same person
2. Create a new account in AD and associate that with the in-active resource. This will free up the account you wish to use for a new resource in the system.
I know option 2 is not ideal, especially if you have a lot of resources to update via this method.
If the accounts are for new users who happen to have the same name, it may also be worth considering using alternative user names instead.
I hope that helps.
Kind Regards

Hi Giles,
Thank you for your response. I used # 2 as a temporary fix before I posted this hoping that I was just trying to make the updates incorrectly. We will have to change our process to prevent the reuse of user initials.
Kind Regards,
Regina

Hi!
I am not sure is the "delete" is an option for you.
But you can delete users in the Database Administration section in Server Settings.
I hope this helps!

Hi Regina,
You may be please to know that the option to use inactive accounts has been added as part of the April 2012 Cumulative Update.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2598272
"You cannot change the user logon account information to an account that does not exist in the Manage Users page. Additionally, you receive the following error message:The NT account specified is invalid. Check the spelling of the user name, verify that a valid domain name was included, and check that a duplicate domain was not used."
Hope it helps...
Kind Regards
Giles
