    Checking the auto-hide taskbar box does not auto-hide it.  The taskbar remains permanently showing, and the taskbar is not locked.  It's critical to autohide because the taskbar is now higher than it was in Vista, and it covers the bottoms of open windows so you can't, for example, use the crop line at the bottom of a picture as the crop line is covered by the taskbar.
