Any time frame on when federation will be supported in sp 2010
- Any time frame on when federation will be supported in sp 2010? and if we want to test out federation and enable Claims FBA with geneva SharePoint membership and roles providers what features will we be missing out on if we were using federation authentication type?

- i can see most of the classes and configuration are there already, i understand its going through interop testing, but is it possible to test it out now against geneva server ?
we are trying to plan for profile import as most of our users arent actaully in AD we want to ensure that profiles users that we import now can be mapped to federated user when that is available. any comments ? - have i posted this in the right place ? any feedback would be greatly appreciated...
- please somebody say something here please.. before i lose my mind .. :D
- I don't know. NO such information was given when I went to Ignite nor at SPC09. I'm sure one of the SharePoint team members knows more, but they may not want to give that info yet, or they may not be reading the forum during Thanksgiving week.

I'm no expert, but is what you're saying here the same as what Claims-based does? You mentioned mapping imported users with a federated user? Are you referring to 2 separate user identity stores? I still may not understand CBA that much, but when it was explained at Ignite and when I spent an extra amount of time with the instructor after the session, I understood it to mean that the source system (federated partner) and destination system (your internal system where SharePoint resides) have a sort of trust where if the person authenticated on the source system, then your sytsem trust this authentication and allows it access without that person needing an account within your system. I don't know how that matches with what you're saying with the mapping, but it could just be that I don't fully understand how CBA works.
SharePoint Architect || My Blog- hi Clayton, thanks for the reply ... stopped me from going insane :D ..mate i am sure you are more of an expert than me... u have 4 medals next to your name .. lolya i am trying to set up federation in SharePoint but the public beta of SharePoint that is put doesn't have that enabled. So wanted to know the time frame around its release, and whether or not they would have a patch for that before the RTM.Thanks,
- If we don't get a response here from someone, then I'll keep digging and report back whatever I find over time. I plan to do an AD-federated 2010 pilot between my current client and another client we have.
SharePoint Architect || My Blog - thanks, i looking forward to it. :D
