I have a problem starting the "Windows SharePoint Services search" service on a W2K3 RC2 server running WSS 3.0.  When I start the service from the Central Administration console the browser returns a generic WSS error message "Error: Class not registered".  The log reports the following message:

Can anyone help with what needs to be done to resolve this issue?  I can provide further information if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello,

Base on my research, there is another similar case which has the same error matches yours. The cause for that one is because the SharePoint search service (mssearch.exe, display name: Windows SharePoint Services Search) startup account does not have sufficient permission to C: drive. You can check is that true in your environment. If so, give more privilege to the account then try again.

               Hope it can help you.
