Dead in the water with MySites, please help!
- OK, i'm beyond frustrated, so bear with me if i forget anything. I have a MOSS 2007 server with a backend SQL 2005 server
There is a main site http://coach that is working flawlessly. I am TRYING LIKE MAD to get the Mysite feature to work. Normally, i've only ever done the single install and it takes care of the backend stuff for me. Now i have the backend seperated, i'm having issues. I have tried to create a seperate SSP, a seperate app pool, another site collection, and every time i click on the mysite, it error's out, either it being a "401" error page or i need to contact my admin to create the personal site? Is there anyone that can point me to a site/webcast/blog that can show me the proper step by step way of getting this setup properly. ANy and all help would be appreciated THanks!!!

- Lets see if I can help you out.
First of all you should have a new seperate Web Application for your Mysites. Secondly you will need to associate that web app as the location for you mysite host. So go ahead a create a new Web App.
Now you will need to create the MY Site Host Site Collection. This is like creating any other site collection. Go to Application Management and click on Create Site Collection. Select the Web App for you My Sites. Under Template Select My Site Host under the Enterprise Tab.
Now go to your SSP Admin Site. On the SSP Admin Site you will see a link for "MY Site Settings". Here is where you will give the URL of the Web Application that you just created to host your my sites and a Location (if desired). You can also specify the mysite name convention as well.
You should be all set. I would do a quic bump of IIS and you should see that the MY Site link is now changed to what you just set up.
Let me know if you need any more help.

- Thanks for the help. I believe i'mi about 90% there. I created the app, then teh site collection. then associated it in the SSP for the new collection. It linked up fine, but when a user clicks the mysite, it starts the creation of the site then error's out with the following error:
"Your personal site cannot be created because the managed path "personal" has not been created for this site. Contact your site administrator for more information."
ANy suggestions on this one? Is this a path i need to create? Never had to do that before, but i'ma learning! Thanks again
- Hello,
The location of My Site may have to be included as a "Wildcard Inclusion", just like OOB inclusions "sites" and "personal". To create Wildcard inclusion, you may use to following steps:
1. Go to the Central Administration, then click Application Management;
2. Choose Define Managed Paths, make sure you have the My Site web application selected on which you want this change;
3. Add the path and make sure to select "Wildcard inclusion" as the type.Hope it helps! Thanks!
