Hi, all.

I have installed MOSS 2007 SP1 (English, US) on Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition 32-bit (RTM).

Configured farm, services, SSP.

Then I install Language Pack (1049 - Russian) and Language Pack Service Pack 1.

I run and pass trough SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard.

After that i still can not see a language choise during creating of a new site collection ((

On Windows Server 2003 R2 there was no problem with Lanaguage Packs.

Solved the problem.

The problem was in the installation procedure for Windows 2008.

i found out that after the installation of the Language Pack some files of it are missing in \web server extensions\12 folder (that are in place on Windows 2003 R2).

If i see right after you follow the instructions for example here: http://technet2.microsoft.com/Office/en-us/library/136838c8-e85a-497a-848b-bed91c7298811033.mspx?mfr=true

"Copy the files that you extracted from the Office SharePoint Server 2007 software update package to the updates folder containing the source for the released version. You must verify that the Svrsetup.dll file has been copied from the Office SharePoint Server 2007 software update package and you should delete the Wsssetup.dll file."

and install MOSS "with updates" you still need to install WSS 3.0 Service Pack 1 after that!

IT IS NOT INSTALLED DURING MOSS 2007 (+Updates) SETUP.
if it was installed during the setup of MOSS it would not allow to intall serive pack after. Besides, I could be sure cuz i checked that some files were old and after the installation of WSS 3.0 SP1 they were replaced with newer versions.

So what i did:

1. install MOSS 2007 + (MOSS 2007 SP1 WSS SP1 in Updates folder), svrsetup.dll from SP1, Wsssetup.dll deleted
2. install WSS 3.0 SP1
3. install Language Pack + (Language Pack Service Pack 1 updates in Updates folder), svrsetup.dll from LP SP1
4. install Language Pack Service Pack 1 - its strange but it seems that LP S1 also was not installed in the step 3.
5. run Configuration Wizard

Then it work. Language pack is applied and i'm sure that i have the right version of all files in 12 folder.

My install steps:

1. Windows Server 2008 en-us

2. WSS with WSS SP1 zh-tw

3. MOSS with MOSS SP1 zh-tw

4. MOSS LP zh-cn

5. MOSS LP SP1 zh-cn

6. WSS LP zh-cn (After Step 6, the Simplified Chinese option appeared.)

7. WSS LP SP1 zh-cn

So if your customer didn’t install WSS LP zh-cn and WSS LP SP1 zh-cn

Can we assume that WSS with WSS SP1 zh-tw is the Taiwanese version of WSS 3.0 incl WSS 3.0 SP1 ?

and that MOSS with MOSS SP1 zh-tw is the Taiwanese version of MOSS 2007 incl MOSS 2007 SP1 ?

In that case there is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to install WSS 3.0 incl SP1 before you install MOSS 2007 incl SP1.

So step 2. should be omitted.

All you need to do is install MOSS 2007 incl SP1 (and yes as it's Windows Server 2008 it must be the version incl SP1).

The I presume that all the zh-cn are the Chines language language packs.

In that case it seems extremely odd to first install the MOSS language packs and then the WSS ones.

I agree that you need both, but as WSS 3.0 is the foundation technology it is logical to first install it's Language Packs and only follow that with installing the MOSS language packs.

P.S. I doubt if many people outside Taiwan and China know what zh-tw and zh-cn mean - certainly out-of-context I wouldn't have had a clue. Please bear that in mind when posting to an English language forum.

It really "seems extremely odd to first install the MOSS language packs and then the WSS ones" but such approach does work!
I installed "The 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Language Pack"(Russian) on MOSS 2007 sp1, which is hosted by Windows server 2008 x64, but was not able to create site or site collection on Russian language
And after I did following:
installed:
The 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Language Pack
The 2007 Microsoft Office Servers Language Pack Service Pack 1
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Language Pack Service Pack 1

I became able to create site collections on Russian language

It's interesting to know that this (odd!) installation order of the LPs works.

You notice that on that I just wrote "it seems extremely odd to first install the MOSS language packs and then the WSS ones."

The thing I was really stressing that shouldn't be done was installing WSS 3.0 (the product) and then installing MOSS - that really is completely unnecessary !
