AreaService.asmx missing after SP2 and August CU upgrades
- Hi all,
I have just installed MOSS SP2 and August CU. Search is not working since with the error Error in the Site Data Web Service. invesitigated the issue and came across this KB article : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;968998&sd=rss&spid=11373
Basically The Area Service Web service is removed from SharePoint Server 2007 after SP2 is installed. It's grand to see MS recognises this as an issue but is there a fix for this as well? the latest hotfix rollup (October CU package) does not seem to address this issue either, adn I have already got August CU in place.

In addition, Office SharePoint Server continues to implement the obsolete Area Web Service. For information about the Area Web Service, see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/websvcareaservice.aspx . Microsoft does not implement any protocol clients for this protocol. This protocol will not be supported in future releases and it is recommended that any implementer of this protocol discontinue usage.

However my main concern is search and why it is not working anymore with the error mentioned in my original post. Since search failed right after SP2 upgrade and the disappearance of the web service I figured that should have something to do with it. Would you be able to advise?

From your post, I am not sure whether your issue is related to KB 968998.
Please post your exact error information(include error in Event Viewer) into the forum for further analyze.
