    Hi Experts,

I want to know something about data base in sharepoint. What database moss uses? Can we add external database to our MOSS server if yes then how?
Let say I create an application, whare is the database of the application?
I have lot of queries about this.

Please make me clear about this topic.

What is the size of a document library I mean how much data a sharepoint library does hold?
How many document library can be created in sharepoint, Is there any limit of Sharepoint site to hold how much data?
What is Quata Template in sharepoint site?

    Thanks
    Ram Sharma

You can only use a suitable version of SQL Server.

Theoretically there is a possiblity using a API that Microsoft provide for a third-party database company to write code so that SharePoint systems use their database system, but none have so far done so.

Your other questions are very vague. Tell us why you want to know. Limits are enough for most normal usages.

Complete Book Lists (incl. foreign language) on each site.

A simple way to find out all database used by SharePoint is to open Central Administration > Operations > Perform a Backup.

You can use Business Data Catalog to expose data stored in other database as lists in SharePoint. Please refer to documents and video as follows for detail:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms563661.aspx

    http://channel9.msdn.com/shows/In+the+Office/Introducing-the-Business-Data-Catalog-BDC/

When you create an application, you have the option to specify the name of the content database for your web application on the creation page.

For the limit of size of document library, please refer to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc287790.aspx . It says that you can put as much as 5 million documents in a library.

A quota template consists of storage limit values that specify how much data can be stored in a site collection and the storage size that triggers an e-mail alert to the site collection administrator when that size is reached. You can create a quota template that can be applied to any site collection in the farm.

    Thanks GuYuming,

Last week I attended a SharePoint conference and asked these questions. I know the concept but they want pure definition n all.
Thank you very much for ur post.

But I have one doubt still like how much data we can put in sharepoint document Library, I mean 50 MB or 50 GB or more.
