401 Unauthorized, nothing helps to fix it

Hello,

I'll start with my configuration first. Server3 is the Main SharePoint 2007 Server. It contains the central administration page. Server 4 is my SQL 2008 Server instance (SERVER4\SQL08InstanceName). Report Server is also installed on Server4. Now I will explains so far what I have done and what it has netted me. The SQL Server is set to run as a Network Service. Report Server is set to use MyDomain\SQLRpt. I have set that user as trusted for delegation in Active Directory, it is setup in the SQL OU, no SPN on the account. Now before I went to the Report Server Creation, I installed the Web-front end onto Server4. I then setup my Users for my upcoming sites (MyDomain\SharePointWebA and MyDomain\SharePointWebB) I then created my 2 currently needed Web Apps in SharePoint (SharePoint on Server3 port 80, NTLM, No Anonymous, no SSL, default zone, MyDomain\SharePointWebA w/ correct Password, restart IIS Automatically, Server4\SQL08InstanceName WSS_Content, Windows Authentication; SSRS on Server4 port 1440, NTLM, No Anonymous, No SSL, default zone, MyDomain\SharePointWebB w/correct Password, Restart IIS Automatically, Server\SQL08InstanceName WSS_Content_f1807a4f36c14e738c015040e2bcdc04, Windows Authentication). I then went in and created a site on for Server4:1440 with the url: server4:1440/sites/ReportServer. After this I installed rsSharePoint_x64.msi on both Server3 and Server4. They both installed completely with no errors. After this I loaded up the Resport Server Configuration Tool on Server4. First thing I did there was Enter in my user and password (MyDomain\SQLRpt), hit apply and went to the Database Tab and Made a SharePoint Integrated Database (ReportServerSharePointMode) then hit apply. From there I went to the Web URL Tab and in virtual directory I have ReportServer_InstanceName, All Assigned, 1440. I then Hit apply there. After this I went back to Server3 and logged in as the Administrator. I then hit Manage Integration Settings and inputed Server4:114/ReportServer_InstanceName, Windows Authentication. Hit apply. And get the following:

Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized.

I tried again, this time Trusted Account and recieved the same. After that I began looking at the following sources:

During which point I have added the following SPNs (SharePointWebA - http/Server3.MyDomain.com, http/Server3; and SharePointWebB - http/Server4.MyDomain.com, http/Server4)

After all this I still get the above Error Message when I try this. I have even tried inputing Server4:1440/sites/ReportServer/ReportServer_InstanceName. I am at the end of my wits trying to figure out all this authentication stuff. This has been going on for several days and I have had to reboot the servers several times. Can anyone see where I might have gone wrong?

To rebrief my configuration again:
Server3 - Windows Server 2008 R2, SharePoint Server 2007. Server4 - Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL 2008. And my Windows Firewall Port is open between those two for that particular port.

KPI is not reading correct columns from View specified

Hello all,

I'm currently creating KPIs to track service technician performance for a Helpdesk Sharepoint portal. From some odd reason, when I create the KPI, choose the associated list and view I want to run metrics across, the values for the columns are not the ones specified in the view.

For example, I have a view called KPI View (make it easy) that is a view primarily for only creating a couple KPIs. The colums are User, Priority, Start Date, Resolution Date, and Assigned To. When I attempted to select a column to add logic to the KPI, the drop down list does not contain Assigned To, but contains Description, Priority, etc, etc..... not even close to what columns I created the view to display.

Has anyone seen this before?

How can I use an Excel sheet to display KPIs? I want to display KPI titles and their associated values from a worksheet. Is this possible or do you have to create KPIs line-by-line in SP 2007?

Also, how do you add more columns to a KPI display?

I want to show reports, implemented with Reporting Services 2008 in a SharePoint site. I followed the tutorial here: http://mosshowto.blogspot.com/2009/02/reporting-services-2008-report.html.

At step "4.6 Step 6 Consume report using SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer Web Part" I'm not able to find the Web Part "SQL Server Reporting Services Report Viewer" in my Web Part gallery. What Content Type should a Reporting Services Datasource be placed in?

I have just set up Reporting Services on Sharepoint 2007 (x64) and would like to know which content type bet suits holding the datasource. My reports are in a "Report Library" - should the datasource be in a "Data Connection Library". I hav heard people mention a "Datasource Library", but I can't see one to create.

I've installed the Reporting Services 2008 AddIn for SharePoint 2007. When I go to Application Management - Manage Integration Settings and enter the /reportserver url, it says

"Server was unable to process request. ---> The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized."

Sharepoint bulk file replace SSRS report update

Hi,

I have a sharepoint site with integrated Sql Server Reporting services. I have several subsites (one for each deparment) each with a version of a particular report (profit and loss for example). Unfortunately, these reports have become out of sync whenever changes to the reports.

Is there a simple way of batch replacing each of the reports on all of the subsites without losing the report parameters using either batch/xcopy/script etc from a single source?

KPI List as List Template does not have relative URL

Hi,

I created a KPI List and saved it as a List Template. I tried to then create a KPI List using the list template in another site.
It created fine but the URL's or the KPI's point back to the original site ... not the new site.

I also tried creating a Site Template with the KPI List in it. The same thing happens.

Is there a fix or workaround?

Excel 2007 error at drillthrough when opening workbook from Sharepoint 2007

Hi!

I have a problem when opening an Excel 2007 workbook with connection to Analysis Services 2005 from Sharepoint 2007.

Following scenario:

1. Create an Excel 2007 workbook with Pivot table connecting to AS 2005 cube
2. Save this workbook to Sharepoint 2007
3. Open this workbook directly frrom Sharepoint
4. try to add/remove measures to the pivot table or drill down to another hierarchy level in the rows --> it works
5. try to make a drillthrough on a figure --> An error appears:
The query did not run or the database table could not be opened.
Check the database server or contact your database administrator. Make sure the external database is available and hasn’t been moved or reorganized, then try the operation again.

Workaround:
6. Save the workbook locally.
7. Close Excel and reopen the locally saved workbook. --> the Drillthrough works!

Does anybody know this behaviour?

The problem only arises, when you open the workbook directly from Sharepoint!

Any help would be appreciated.

Central admin site disappears after WFE server install

I am trying to install a farm with a database server, app server, wfe server using reporting services. I think the admin site gets whacked when I do the wfe install on the database server. My understanding is that you have to install a wfe on the report server (same as database server) to 'join' the server to the farm.

I am sure there are dozens of ways this could go wrong. Any ideas anyone?

SSRS in an Extranet environment

I have MOSS 2007 using SSRS 2005 to view reports from SQL, and I am working in an extranet enviroment. The reports work fine, until you try to view them externally from the network where i receive this error -

The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized ( The server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web server is denied. Contact the server administrator. ).

I have read that Sharepoint Reporting services only supports access in the default zone, therefore users would not be able to view reports externally through an extranet, is this true?

If it is then is this functionality possible in the Katmai release or SSRS 2008?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can anyone help me with this?

Report Builder Credentials / Authentication over Extranet

We're looking to implement a Sharepoint Portal with Reporting Services integrated.

The goal of this portal would be to allow external clients to connect to the portal, download excel reports, view reporting services reports and create their own using Report Builder.

As I read through the articles/forums/blogs about this, it seems that there is one haunting issue that may pose a problem. That seems to be how to supply credentials to the Report Server (or Sharepoint since it's integrated) so that it is aware of who is the user that is launching Report Builder.

I currently have an internal test implementation with WSS 3.0 and Reporting Services in Integrated Mode. I'm able to launch Report Builder without issues and create/save/open reports.

My concern is the issues that it sounds like we will face when we decide to replicate this and expose it as an external/production environment.

If anyone can shed some light on any of the following questions I would really appreciate it:

Internally my test implementation uses Windows Authentication. When exposing Sharepoint + Reporting Services on internet should we keep this model or is it advisable to use a Forms/SQL provider model?
When launching the Report Builder smart client application, has anyone had success with passing credentials so that only Reports and Report Models that the user should see are visible to him/her?
Some posts seem to indicate that the user will be prompted to enter their credentials when launching Report Builder over the internet. Will the user see an error message when prompted? Is that error message configurable? Upon entering those credentials, will Report Builder operate as normal?

Sorry for the long post, any help is greatly appreciated.

Shared Schedules Broken after MOSS SP2 Upgrade - SSRS Integrated

We have recently upgraded our servers to WSS & MOSS 2007 SP2

We run SSRS reports in Integrated Mode (Kerberos) and execute these reports with a Shared Schedule, 3 schedules are setup - Daily, Monthly, Weekly

Since the upgrade none of these schedules appear to be working, the Last Run of the schedule shows that it has run but yet no new Snapshots for any of the reports have been created

This works in our Dev environment, but not in our QA or Prod

Difference is.. Dev is 32bit, QA & Prod are 64bit systems

Nothing is showing in the logs, I have turned All to Information and Verbose... but yet I don't see anything in the logs pertaining to Shared Schedules

SSAS 2005 Filter Webpart Connect to Reportview Webaprt not able to configue connection

We have bulit a cube using SSAS and we have used SSRS to generate reports using SSRS.I was able to to deploy the report on my sharepoint site.As the report generated had few parameters which was fetched from cube.So one can select these parameter in reportviewer webpart itself.But my requirement is have a separate filter for parameters.So i added a SSAS 2005 filter and connnected to the cube and got the parameter values.Wen i try to connect this filter to my reportviewer webpart,i m facing issues:

1. Initially, Encode selected value as set was checked in SSAS 2005 Filter webpart configuration,I was able to configure connection between my filter webpart and my Reportviewer.But While generating the report it gave an error saying "The filter value provided for parameter 'YEARYear' is not a valid value". Then i thought Reportviewer may not accept multiple values as parameter as SSAS filter fetches the values from Cube.

2.So i unchecked Encode selected value as set in the configuration of SSAS webpart.But this time wen i tried to configure the connection between SSAS Filter and Reportviewer, Filtered parameter has been greyed out.I m not able to connect to the Reportviewer webpart itself.

I tried out other filters like choice filter too but in vain,not able to connect the filter to my Reportviewer webpart.Filtered parameter option has been grayed out.

Is there any workaround for the same so that i can connect filter to Reportviewer webpart.Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,

I am developing a proof of concept and I saw several possible methods to set up an intranet, which, in advance, would like to be specific for each department throughout our organization. We would like to have a shared report center, but also non-shared departmentdashboards with BI performancepoint components.

I was thinking for an architecture like this:

Root intranet (Site collection) with different categories like country, location

- News

- weblog

With for every department an own teamsite which can connect to the root News and weblog component

- News (Inherited)

- weblog (Inherited)

- Department dashboard

- Function/jobspecific dashboards

- Documentlist (for procedures etc.)

And finally a report and document center.

Since I am quite green in the area of SharePoint I would like to know what you do think about the setup above and what the nest practices are.

Could you help me out?

After Process the Cube, Report in SharePoint do not refresh

Hi All,

My environment is...

A Machine - SQL Server Staging DB, SQL Server Analysis Service and SQL Server Reporting Service
B Machine - Windows SharePoint Service 3.0, SQL Server Reporting Service in integration mode.

And I have 2 report location that at A (Reporting service layout) and B SharePoint Library. Both is calling A cube for data.

everything works fine unless...

My report's data in SharePoint do not refresh even I process my cube, but at location A, the report display right data..

I have tried to use context menu -> "Manage processing Option" in sharepoint library to config the process method as "live data", but it still displaying something like cache(apparently, my "B" Report is not connecting to cube)

Do you have any idea??

Document library - page - Add a web part - Page Viewer Web part

Page Viewer Web part - Modify Shared Web Part - Link - link to the report from SSRS

one page includes up to 8 "Page Viewer Web part" , 8 reports in one page - looks like dashboard and works fine

but now I got a problem

each report should has link "details" - click on link and see new report but report must open in the same SharePoint window but it opened new window now

if I opened report on SSRS just direct link localhost/ReportServer/... and click "details" - new report will open in the same window, exactly as needed

but form SharePoint it always opened in new window

any ideas how to open new report in the same window on SharePoint ?

KPI list "Update" ,"Move up","Move Down" submenu are disabled.

I could not figure out a way to sort the Value indicators in a KPI list, the submenus on the Value indicator, namely "Move UP", "Move Down" and Update appears to be disabled.

The "Update" sub menu gets enabled when you choose the KPI to get manually updated.

But the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons donot come into enabled state what ever the
settings we adjust.

Hi,

I need to set a few KPIs based on a SharePoint List.

For example, of all the items where the Field1 is empty, calculate the percentage where Field2 is Choice1 and Field3 > 1/1/2009

This hipothetical example, just to say that I would like to set the KPI rules programatically, add custom columns to the KPI List, use those columns to filter the list of Kpi's etc.

Is this possible? Can anyone point me to some blogpost, codeplex project, or any other article that can point me on a good direction?

SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services broke Sharepoint

Hello,
I had Sharepoint 2007 running fine prior to the installation of SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services. I followed the directions to the tee. Installed Web Farm front end on the SQL Server machine, where Reporting Services was going to be running, and set it up so that it was showing on the Central Administation page. I then downloaded the Reporting Services Sharepoint Add-In and installed it. I have then gotten the following when logging into the Central Administration Page:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Runtime Error

Description:

 <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly"/> </system.web> </configuration>

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

 <configuration> <system.web> <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="mycustompage.htm"/> </system.web> </configuration>

Uninstalling the Add-in the page remains the same. How do I go about fixing this?

How to hide "Manage Parameters" menu from the reports in SharePoint

Hello,
I have a hidden parameter called Department in my reports. I derive the value based on the the UserId that accesses the report and use it to filter the data by that Department.
I use this parameter in Subscriptions to assign the department value so I can generate department-wise reports (since subscription needs stored credentials and I cannot use the Userid to arrive at the department).

When I publish these reports to SharePoint. The users are still able to access the hidden parameter through "Manage Parameters" contextual menu. How can I hide this??

PS: I have assigned the Read permission (the default Visitors type) and it includes the Edit permission to all reports. If I change to just View items only, the reports are not even visible to the users, so it seems I need to assign Edit permission to even view the reports. Any other option available to restrict this?

ssrs editions and version matching

We recently integrated performance point monitoring server into our sharepoint 2007 enterprise farm.

We have 2 web servers and 1 application index server in the sharepoint farm, with a sql cluster. All servers running server 2008 and sql is 2008 standard.
With the installation of monitoring server we bought another seperate sql server that is running windows 2008, sql 2008, database services, reporting services, integration services and analysis services. This sql is 2008 but with sql enterprise.

So on the web servers we have ssrs and the add-in installed for 2008 and it all works fine. The ssrs on these servers are setup as scale out deployment and running enterprise ssrs.

Is it required that the ssrs running on the sharepoint web servers be enteprise edition to match the server that handles the reporting which also is sql server 2008 enterprise?

We tried it with sql 2008 standard on the web servers but never worked, but it works fine now with matched editions and versions of sql. Just want to make sure as enterprise sql can be costly.

Is there some microsoft articles to backup the matching of editions for this scenario?

SSRS Integrated Mode view report permissions

I have MOSS 2007 with a SSRS 2008 instance in Integrated Mode. I have 2 Report libraries (an ExcelServices and Report Library). The only way I am able to give users permission to see SSRS reports deployed to Report Library is to give them "Contribute" which allows reports to be deleted.

However, in the ExcelServices report library, I am able to deploy SSRS reports and users can execute/view them with the simple "Read" permission. I've checked the usual suspects and cant find anything obviously different with these two libraries that would cause this discrepancy. I even created a new document library and it exhibits the same behavior...unless you give contribute permissions, users cannot see them.

How can I give permissions to the Report Library for usres to "read" only and still allow users to see/interact with reports?

Hey friends, this will probably be a simple answer. I'm trying to pull a SharePoint list as a datasource in my SSRS reports. Here is the Soap Query I'm trying to immitate:

Permission Problem with Reports Library

I have a reports library with 5 reports in my sharepoint website. I want to give the access to somebody, just with the Read permission. Then i put this user in the "Sharepoint Dev Visitors" groups.

But when this user goes to the reports library, he doesn't show any report.

How can i fix this problem ?

SQL reporting service fails on Sharepoint extranet Website

Hi,
I was be able to configure the SQL reporting services 2005 to work and integrate them in intranet sharepoint site 2007 in my company.So, we decided to put them on internet facing sharepoint site using Form Authentication. However, the report service doesnt work. The error message we got is something like this :" Either Sharepoint Integrated mode is disabled or Report Server is using Trusted Account".
I dont know what's exactly going on here. I've been researching and found no solution. I would like an advice.

SSRS2008 in SPIM mode

I have MOSS 2007 EE running against SSRS/SPIM SQL Server 2008 EE SP1.

Two questions:

1. I don't see the "Manage Subscriptions" drop down for reports in the Report Library. But I do see it when I run the report and click on Actions in the upper toolbar. Everything else is working fine.

2. Also how to enable report snapshots ? I searched high and low could not find how to do this..

I have created KPI List. My reqirement is i have one list containing all project names with estimated budget.
Now i want to create KPI for this list based on budget, i.e., want to show indicator based on each individual item estimated budget.

But what i am able to do is based on No. of list items (or) based on %of list items (or) based on Sum, Maximum, Average, Minimum.
But my requirement is want to display indicator for each item in a list.

How to do this, Any ideas will be appreciated.

reporting services 2008 table column width resizing

We converted a report from RS2005 to RS2008 and discovered a problem with the 2008 version. The table contains several columns with CanGrow turned on so text that is too long for the column will wrap and the row height will increase to accommodate the text.

We have a situation where the data coming back from the database is too wide for the column and should wrap, but instead of wrapping the text, the column width is being increased.

We narrowed down the circumstances where this will occur:
- the text that is too wide for the column does not have any spaces in it. Normally wrapping would occur where there is a space if possible, otherwise wrapping will occur in the middle of a word.
- the column headers have text labels that wrap

The only way we were able to resolve the problem was to remove the header row and instead add textboxes above the table to simulate the header row.

SSRS 2008 - Expand Collapse icon in reverse order

Hi,

We have a cube based report which has the following layout:
1) Main Report which has groupings (and sections) on it.
2) Each of the groupings has a detail level which exposes a Sub-Report.

The Expand/Collapse functionality works fine on the button click (of the +/- icon). When the Default was set to "Hide" the icon made sense - it would show (+) in order to allow the user to expand and (-) once the section is expanded.
Based on user request, we switched the functionality for a section to show default "Expanded" and the icon still behaves the same way which is wrong (we expect the icon to now behave in the reverse way...that is to show (-) since the section is now expanded). Numerous attempts to set the defaults/ toggles etc have failed to switch the icons. (Note:- BOTH the Grouping AND the Detail levels have default Visibility set to "Show")

Even creating a new report to check this functionality produces this same erratic behavior.
In short - For a Cube based report in SSRS 2008, when the default is Expanded for a section, the toggle icon appears to work in Reverse order.
(Please reply specific to this issue above, we are aware of how to set the Visibility of a Section, Set default to Expand/Collapse by going to Properties as well as use the Toggle button - its the weird behavior of the icon that is the issue, also if there is any way to customize the icon that would be helpful too...Thanks Much!!)

SSIS - For Each Loop Variable Enumerator

HI

I am using a Execute SQL Task which gets me a resultset having 2 columns (Order, FileName)
Ex :   1,AuditFile
         2,SalesFile
         3,ReportFile

Once I get this resultset I want to use a foreach loop to loop through these files one by one as per order.
Means: Audit file will be read first,then SAles file and then the Report File.

How can I do this in SSIS 2008.

SSRS/Sharepoint Config error

Hi All,

I've been trying to set up a SQL SSRS server to integrate with Sharepoint but and experiencing problems. I have some experience in this area and have set up SSRS numerous times. I've followed an MS document to the letter yet still I am receiving the following error when I browse to http://servername/reportserver

ReportViewer WebPart and autoresize problem

Hi all,

I'm using the Report Viewer webpart to display some reports from sql server's Reporting Services.

My problem is that :

- If I set the webparts size to fixed, I get the report but I'm limited by size to what I can do and see in the report

- If I set it to autoresize, no report is shown.

Are you aware of any issues regarding this? Any workarounds? Shouldn't the webpart adapt itself to the report?

401 in reporting services web part. But only on client.

As above I am now receiving 401 errors in reporting services web parts when trying to access from a client machine. When I access the same place from the Sharepoint WFE server, it works OK.

I have it in my head that it is a kerberos issue (we are using kerberos), but we have relevant SPN's listed on accounts. It has worked for months and now fallen over.

Suggestions??

KPI error: "The previously selected column no longer exists in the list"

If I create a Project Tasks list and leave it with all default columns and views, I can also set up a new KPI list and indicator values with the project task list columns as expected. If I add a few custom columns to the Project Tasks list, including a calculated column, those new columns show up when creating a new indicator. But the problem comes when I start creating custom views and changing the default views. After I create a new view, modify an existing template view, or change which view is the default view, then almost all the columns no longer appear in the dropdown when creating a new indicator. Now if I modify a KPI that I created before I started customizing views, I get the error "The previously selected column no longer exists in the list. Select a new column." But the column I originally selected IS still in the list and if I cancel out of the Edit Indicator page, the KPI still calculates correctly, so it obviously knows that column still exists.

So the workaround I have is this:
1) Create a new list
2) Create a KPI list and set up every possible KPI that I want on the list
3) Then modify/create views

The problems are that 1) it's impossible to know all KPI's I might want to run on a list and 2) I can never edit the goal or warning values of the KPIs I initially set up.

Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I follow the steps exactly as described in Microsoft's article: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepointserver/HA100800271033.aspx But as soon as I modify views, then all is broken.

I'm running MOSS 2007 SP2 on Windows Server 2008 32-bit with SQL Server 2005 32-bit.
