Greetings and Salutations,

I am pleased to present the April Edition of the Adelaide SharePoint User Group’s Newsletter.

Last week saw the first European SharePoint Best Practices conference held in London. Wrap up and feedback about it has been great! It was one of the best conferences so I’m told as I didn’t get to make the trip. Check out the site at: http://www.sharepointbestpractices.co.uk/

That being said, TechEd Australia 2009 is set to be an amazing event also. This year it is being held up on the Gold Coast.

I hope to be going again this year, however this year I hope to be attending as a presenter, representing both South Australia and the Adelaide SharePoint User Group.

Which leads me on to my next matter of what topic would you like to see presented at TechEd Australia 2009? I’m keen to get your feedback on what you would like to see presented.

If you have any suggestions on a topic, please send it though to me and I will collate the details and post the results.

Virtual Machine

The virtual machine image contains Trial versions of Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Visual Studio 2005, Live Communications Server and much more!

We’ll have a presentation showing off the benefits of SharePoint and what can be done with it in a real world example by use of this hard drive in the coming months, so stay tuned for more information!

NOTE: This is a 40GB Virtual Machine with everything under the sun running on it. The more memory and disk speed you have, the better performance you will get!

March Meeting write up

What a turn out, over 60 people attending this joint meeting on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It didn’t wrap up until around 9:30PM! A long session but a lot of information!

Thanks to Jeff Alexander for coming over and presenting for the better part of 4 hours. I have received quiet a lot of positive feedback about the night.

Thanks also to the Adelaide Small Business Server User Group and SAGE-AU for coming along and making it one heck of an evening!

· 6:15PM – Let’s get CRM & SharePoint talking with the new CRM Enterprise Search Accelerator – Catherine Eibner

· Participants will gain an understanding of the features in the new CRM Accelerator, the technology behind it & then we will walk through how to set up & configure it so that they can implement it in their own SharePoint deployments.

Catherine Eibner recently joined Microsoft Australia as the Dynamics Developer Evangelist after running her own business, Cybner Consulting, for a number of years in the SQL and CRM consulting space. She has significant experience as a developer and consultant, is a Microsoft Certified Trainer and was awarded CRM MVP status just prior to joining Microsoft. Catherine is involved with several Sydney based user groups and presents regularly at several User groups around Australia. She is particularly passionate about supporting & encouraging other Women in IT and is involved with both the GeekGirlBlogs.com site, the GeekGirlBlogs Podcasting series as well as the Sydney Girl Geek Dinners.

Participants will gain an understanding of how to create public websites using SharePoint. Also they will learn how to “sexify” the look and feel of their site (or “de-SharePointing with style”).

Adam Cogan is the Chief Architect at SSW, a Microsoft Certified Partner specializing in Office and .NET Solutions. At SSW, Adam has been developing custom solutions for businesses across a range of industries such as Government, banking, insurance and manufacturing since 1990 for clients such as Microsoft, Quicken, and the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation.
