Master Page Gallery Library Permissions Change Automically - Why?

When you first create a new publishing site in MOSS 2007, the Master Page Gallery library does not inherit permissions from the Parent Website - even though the permissions mirror your site's permissions when it is created.

My question is why does MOSS change the permissions to no one having any rights to the library? I don't know what triggers this - but the end result is a Site Owner can no longer create a new page within the site (they get an access denied error message when trying to create a new page). I have seen this over and over again when working with clients - the solution is to go into the Master Page Gallery library and give them read rights - then they can create pages again.

But does anyone know why the original permissions on the library get blown away?

Field name too long error on Migration from MCMS to MOSS

Hi all When we try to migrate the content from MCMS to MOSS using MOSS out of the box content migration process we are getting an error that “Specified field name is too long” and the migration job fails. Please let me know if any of you have faced a similar issue or has any inputs on this issue. PS: The Pre-migration analysis happened successfully without any issues and error log just gives the description for the error as “The specified field name is too long.”. Any help on this is highly appreciated. Thanks Manjunath

Manage Content Sources page very slow to load

Hi, One one of our SharePoint farms the Manage Content sources page (i.e. /listcontentsources.aspx) is very slow to load. It'll get there eventually but could take upto 5 minutes. Anyone seen this behaviour before, have any ideas on why it's happening and how to resolve? Thanks in advance. Paul

Why is the Site Content and Structure interface missing in some MOSS site-collections?

In my instance of MOSS the "Content and Structure" interface is available on some site collections and missing on others.

My experimentation shows that you must enable the 'Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure' feature to enable the 'Content and Structure' interface.

What's more? I have found other odd dependencies on the publishing feature that do not seem to me to be necessarily related to "publishing". My problem there is that I cannot find a list of what all is included in this feature. Or what other features might include the same functionality that I want without the rest of the publishing stuff - whatever that is.

When I propose turning on the feature, savvy site-owners ask, "Well, what else does the feature do? and how will this change my user experience?" I cannot find an authoritative answer.

Another problem here is that the publishing feature, which seems to contain a good portion of functionality, is not activated in new site-collections by default. I am working on a feature stapling solution that I will post on CodePlex when it's ready. Stapling is the only method I know of to make sure publishing feature is active by default in new site-collections.

We are hesitating to take this step because we don't fully understand everything the publishing feature includes.

I welcome discussion and input on this topic.

Clearly this is a bug, and I know the workaround but where can I log this as an issue? Connect has no way to submit issues back to the sharepoint team. The affected product is MOSS Enterprise SP2 (no CUs applied)

Repro:

- Create a site collection with publishing template (e.g. at /)
- Create variation labels (e.g. english/french)
- Modify the root /Pages library (which will eventually host the VariationRoot.aspx page) to NOT require checkout for editing files (via settings > versions)
- Attempt to create hierarchy

Cleary the answer is to leave the root Pages library alone, however, it took us a long long time to find this issue because we were using a custom feature to create the variations hierarchy in a custom site definition (ONET.xml) - lots of mud in the way.

So, where can we log these things?

Jquery call to SharePoint Content Page method

Hi,

I am using a SharePoint publishing page layout. There is a link on a page and when someone clicks on the link it should call a page method. I want to achieve this using JQuery so that the page does not get refreshed.
I have tried the following things -
1. Created an aspx page where i declared a Static WebMethod in .cs file & on click of the link i am calling this method using JQuery. This approach worked fine with ASP.Net. But when i tried the same with SP Content Page it did not work.
2. Created a .ascx User Control which contained the method & called the method from JQuery, but it did not work.

Please provide some guidance in this. Also let me know if there is a better approach to achieve this.

Formatt changes in "Slide Library", after a slide is published from PowerPoint 2007

Hi There,

We are using Latest version of Office Enterprise 2007 SP2 and MOSS 2007 SP2 + August 2009 Cumulative updates.

When an PowerPoint Presentation is Published to the Slide Library, some of the formatting of the Slides changes. When we edit/view/copy the slide it does not regain the formatting. But, when the slide is copied to a new presentation it regains the formatting.

Other than this, we have tried converting the Slide to an older version (2003) and uploading. The result remains the same.

The slide when directly edited from the "Slide library" for the format loss, the changes remain in effect.

This occurs only when we publish the presentation.

MOSS 2007 WCM - File not found only in extended Site

Good morning,

i have a problem, i developped and deployed a custom website with SharePoint MOSS 2007 WCM using a solution package and feature.
The site got a public side (extended Internet applicattion) and a contributors side.
Everything worked fine until i had a "File not found" error occuring on a page of the site.
I recreated the Page on the contribution side but it doesn't solve the problem on the Internet extended site.

What can I do to make the changes in the Internet site as well.

a user wants to view & open his visio file through the explorer view. the DC lib is set up for versioning and requires check in/out. when he tries to open the file, this error is thrown: "An error (110) occurred during the action Open File. Visio cannot write to the file. The file has been opened read-only." however, the file does not open. i have seen some writings on this subject that claim this is a known bug, but i can not find anything definitive.

I am working for a company that had implemented the MOSS 2007 solution before I started working for them, and didn't use best practices for when to use doc libraries vs lists. I have set up a records center and configured the connection properly, and have an up and running records management solution.

I am wondering if it is possible to configure the records center to be able recieve list items? And obviously, be able to send list items to the Records Center by right-clicking > Send to Records Center. Possible?

A user failed to create a folder in a MOSS 2007 library. We are now unable to create a new folder in this
specific library. When we click New/New Folder from this specific library, we get the following error : Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E2F. The problem only occurs with this specific library, not with the other libraries.

When trying to copy files in explorer view I'm keep getting the errrormessage:

Can not copy 'FILENAME': The parameter is incorrect.

I can upload the very same file from the same location to the same target on SP-server without problems.

Can someone please give me a hint on what the problem might be?

I am very new to sharpoint and don't even know how to ask the question. We want to use sharepoint to develop and maintain html documents that will then be delivered to students thru our Learning Management System (BlackBoard). Is there a way to deliver the content (html) from sharepoint that would display in the student's class using an http://server/page.htm link in an IFRAME or META tag?

MOSS 2007 - Require Check Out and refresh problem

When the "Require Check Out" option is activated for a document library, the document library page is not refreshed correctly when the document is saved and archived.

Process (Word 2003+IE6) :

- Edit a document from the library

- Modify the document

- Save and archive the document

- Write the comment for the version

The page in IE is not refreshed and it's like the document is still checked out.

If during the modification time another user has opened the same document in merge mode, he is not advertised when the document is available again.

Is it a bug or a configuration problem?

Is there a way to get the uploaded document's last modified date? when I upload a document to sharePoint document library, the last modified date changed to the uploaded date. Does sharepoint save the original last modified date of the document before uploading it in somewhere, so I can return it?

How to Publish to an Extranet?

I have read the "Planning an Extranet Environment for Office SharePoint Server" published March 2009 for MOSS 2007. According to the section "Back-to-back perimeter topology with content publishig" I am supposed to be able to setup publishing sites on the internal corporate network with content that can be published to the server farm that is located in the perimeter. This document says it requires two farms and publishing is one-way. All great so far, and just what I want.
Based on this document there are other topologies which allow content publishing to extranet servers as well. I am flexible on the topology, I just need to find one that works.

I am trying to set up this scenario but cannot seem to find any information on how to actually setup the sites or servers to allow us to publish from one server to another. Testing seems to validate this, I haven't been able to set it up to work.

How do you publish from one MOSS 2007 server or site collection to another?

Problems with the right Publishing Button

I am not sure if this is the best place for this question but thought I would give it a try.

We have a publishing site that had approval required for pages in the "Pages" library. Things worked fine then. However when it was decided that approval was no longer needed for the "Pages" library and we turned off the setting users that had the Approve Items permission level suddenly had two publish buttons. The left publish button works correctly however the right publish button seems to really be an approve button. When you click the right button it gives the error:

" You can only approve or reject documents in a list for which content approval has been enabled. "

Has anyone else seen this or come up with a solution to fix the problem. I know for the most part we can fix it by simply removing the Approval rights from people. The edge case I can't seem to figure out is what to do with site collection admins and people that have full control rights.

My problem is the conversion does not embedded images.
I m working with moss 2007.

Need your assitance to solve my issue, I am using single attachment placehoder to upload a file, per article it is going to cms repository i think it is resource gallery. but i am not able to find uploaded file in resource galley ,seems it contains only small amount of files only, it can hold based cache size.

Now my question is how i can find my upload attachement and delete, if it is DB which Table ? and how to find?, My goal is find and delete

I can retrieve the uploaded file by giving URL , but i need to remove that attachment physicaly from CMS,How can i achieve

Hi,

We have a SharePoint installation for one of our clients with external access enabled using https via ISA server. When accessing the portal internally within the intranet/domain its fine. In case of external access using https when users login to portal adn when they try to open a MS Word (or any Office) document they are prompted to to enter their username and password again. It happens for every MS Office document. We are using MOSS 2007, Office 2007. I know that the promp for re-authentication is is due to the fact that office try to open a new session but is there any work around to overcome this.

How can you reset a site to site definition

Hi All, I have juste migrated from wss2 to wss3. There is a function to reset a page to site definition as part of the Sharepoint Designer. However that kind of long. There is also a way to do it by going to the site setting of a particular site. And since there is that functionality I am wondering if the Object Model allow you to reset a site programatically to site definition. Any idea?

Hi everyone,

I'm an IT professional completely new to Sharepoint, and while I found a code snippet related to my question on the forums here I am hoping for more step by step instructions (or a link to an installable Feature) to achieve this.

As the title of the post implies, I need to add new document types so they can be created with the "new->Document" menu from a site library. The catch is that this is for an already implemented collection of sites, with a very large number of document libraries, and going through and adding new content types to each of them would take a considerable amount of time.

I am willing to achieve this in a programmatic fashion, but for this particular issue don't have enough time to learn the whole gamut of Sharepoint coding. Anyhow, all help is appreciated.

I'm using MOSS 2007 Ent ed.
I have created a picture library for each dept under a site. For each departmental picture library, i have created few folders. Since I would like to have folder with event information (Event name, Event description, Event date), I used content mgmt to add in metadata into folder. I have no issue with upload the picture into folder and assign folder properties. The error occured when view picture from one to another folder. Does any one have idea on this? or can anyone share/advice on how to category picture library based on requirements above?

In a publishing site, I have a page based on a blank web part page layout. I detach page from page layout. After detaching, when we edit the page in SharePoint site and modify any webpart properties, SharePoint always gives the following error

"This page has been modified since you opened it. You must open the page again."

I would like to set all users word options to save checked out files to web server. Like stated in http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HA102085831033.aspx "Your administrator might specify a custom location or prevent the location from being changed, depending on the needs of your organization".

Am the administrator and our needs is simply to have all users check out files and use web server as the default location.

Does anyone know how to do this?????

Error while uploading attachment to list datasheet view

I'm using SharePoint 2007, I have a datasheet view for a list. when i try to edit an item, and upload an attachment. I recieve the following error:

"An unexpected error has occurred. Your attachments cannot be added or removed." i tried it from different pc's same problem happens. btw, the IE version is 8.

In Sharepoint 2007, IRM supports Excell, Word and PowerPoint out of box...

Any idea if there will be additional out of box support for filetypes such as PDF, TIFF, Outlook Emails (.msg)...?

I am hoping to avoid creating custom protectors to protect the files and building an add-ons to software such as Adobe Reader to understand the RMS licences...

Looking forward to additional suggestion as well...

Publishing page layout

Hi,

We have a requirement where we have a form to be filled. The approach that we are using is to create site column and content types using sharepoint API and installing it as a feature. Now we are designing a layout page where we are using the content type created earlier.

Now the requirement is that we have to enter the detail of speakers and the number of speakers is to be decided at runtime. Now in speaker detail we have three fields :

1. Speaker name
2. Description
3. Image

Now these are the details of one speaker. In the same way we can have n number of speakers and number of speakers is to be decided at run time.
I am having difficulty in deciding how to implement it. I have few questionas regarding same:

1. Can we have repeating column.
2. Can we use two content types for the same layout page.
3. Any other approach.

Please help with this issue.

Reusable Content is designed for use in Publishing pages in MOSS ECM. While editing pages, users have the ability to create and insert Reusable Content and reference it across the site.

But what if you want to use that same content elsewhere? Imagine you wanted to query a section of a publishing page containing RC, or even a ListItem which contains RC, and expose that content either via WebService or just display it in a page. You'll find out very quickly that the Reusable Content stored in that list item contains a link to a publishing fragment which, in conjunction with some client-side script, renders the content into your page.

My question is this: How, if at all, can one display the content from a column containing reusable content in a page which does not contain a SharePoint Publishing HTML editor? This solution would need to display, one way or another, the column's content along with reusable content.

Any help or insight is greatly appreciated!

Hello all, my question is can we use content deployment feature (jobs,paths) of MOSS for deploying content from a MOSS authoring farm that is located within company intranet to deploy contents to a remote MOSS server (production farm) that is accesible via internet? The remote production server is accessible via the internet and I don't have physical access to it. however I am able to do remote desktop into the server. What are the limitations/restrictions/pre-requisites in this scenario? Please help.

Im creating sharepoint wcm project.
Im having one web application and couple of site collections on it, some pages will be common across site collections so is it possible to share the pages across site collections.

Ex : I have 3 Site collections in one web application. Each site collection have one site. lets take sitecollection1 has 10 pages on its site and site collection2 has 10 pages aswell. Now In sitecollection2, 5 pages are same as sitecollection1. So instead of creating those 5 pages in site collection2 is there any way of sharing those pages from site collection1.

please suggest the steps.

(note : pages will contain document libraries, usercontrols, webparts, field controls)

We have identified to copy the pages across sitecollection using sharepoint object model... is this the right way of doing it...
Also please provide if any alternate ways to do it efficiently...

change variation content migration logic

Hi all,

i have a problem with variation site in sharepoint publishing portal. i have created two labels (english and french) in that portal. English is the source site.

I have a requirement like when a new page gets published in english site, it should also gets created @french site automatically. This is available OOTB in variation sites. but when the same page gets changed and if it gets republished @English site, it should not replace that page @French site...

How can i do that??

Do i have to create ItemEventReceiver? like on item update of pages library of french site and check if it is already exists.. or what?

Please provide your review on that..
