How to consume sharepoint list in excel service?

I am new to this area. There is a sharepoint list and I would like to consume in excel service so that the list can be used to present the data in graph forms also.

I got this piece of code for UDF but I am not sure how I can use it.

Any help?

I've got the following (maybe odd) situation:
- 1 MOSSserver with name "SERVER" and is member of active directory "AD"
- all users resides in NT4-domain "NT4"
- there's a trust between NT4-domain en active directory
- Alternate Access Mappings looks like this:

Internal URL	Zone	Public URL for Zone
http://server:1234	Default	http://somename.nt4.elsewhere:1234
http://server.ad.somewhere:1234	Intranet	http://server.ad.somewhere:1234
http://somename.nt4.elsewhere:1234	Default	http://somename.nt4.elsewhere:1234

So for me, as user NT4\USERNAME it's possible to access Central Administration through URL http://somename.nt4.elsewhere:1234 (same situation for the portal site en SSP)

I'm trying to use the Excel Web Access webpart, but it keeps on throwing an error in de SharePoint-logs:
There was an error in communicating with Excel Calculation Services http://SERVER:56737/SharedServices_SharePoint/ExcelCalculationServer/ExcelService.asmx exception:
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found. [Session: (null) User: NT4\USERNAME].

When i open this link in the browser, i can see the Webservice-page.
But somehow MOSS can't handle it and i think it's got something to do with de mappings.
But i'm stuck.
As far as i know i can't use AAM for Excel Services.
I've tried hostheaders on the iis (on website Office Server Web Services):
hostheader values:
server.ad.somewhere
somename.nt4.elsewhere

But i'm keeping the same errors. I think it's something "simple", but i ran out of options.
My English isn't that well, so i hope my post is readable.
So i hope someone can help me with this problem.

SharePoint 2007 - Excel Web Part

I am tring to create an Excel Web Part in one of my companies SharePoint pages and I keep receiving this error. I followed someinstructions online that led me to uploading a the file correctly to the server, but still nothing. The error is displayed below.

Unable to Display Named Item

The named item cannot be displayed.

The named item is either not available in the workbook or was not selected as a named item for viewing when the workbook was published. The named item may also be located in a hidden range of cells or in a collapsed outline.

Can anyone Help with this matter its urgent.

openworkbook always returns 'You do not have permissions to open this file in Excel Services'

I'm having a problem opening any workbook in our sharepoint site - it's always giving me the 'You do not have permissions to open this file in Excel Services'

The url specified in the openWorkbook call DOES open in browser - so I'm assuming that the location is a trusted location, and this is confirmed by looking at the site settings. I hope I am right in assuming that this means Excel Services is providing the ability to render it in the web.

I've changed the filename for a non existant one and it correctly tells me the file doesn't exist. I've used the DefaultCredentials, the DefaultNetworkCredentials and tried various user accounts (they correctly return a 404 unauthorised if I set them incorrectly) but I always get the permissions error.

The permissions of the file in question have been set to 'Full Control' for every group specified in the system to try and open it out. I've tried this from within a web page and a console app with no difference to the result.

What have I missed please?

Excel web Access errors opening a very basic Excel Spreadsheet in sharepoint

I'm quite sure I'm set everything up as needed, and yet if we try select to "view in browser" for a 2007 excel spreadsheet we get a Excel web Access error: "An error has occured. Please contact your system administrator if this problem persists".

I followed the directions to a tee from a post here:

1. Go to Shared Services Administration>Excel Services Settings> change “File Access Method” from Impersonation to Process account;

2. Go to Shared Services Administration>Excel Services Trusted File Locations>add the path of the document library containing the Excel files;

3. Go to Shared Services Administration>Excel Services Trusted Data Connection Libraries> add the path of the document library containing the Excel files;

4. Finally go to Shared Services Administration>Excel Services Trusted File Locations>select the document library URL, click on the drop down list and select “Edit”>under “Allow external data”, select “Trusted data connection libraries and embedded”;

5. Do IIS reset.

Even tried a server restart.. Yet still get the error.

I've tried switching File access method from Impersonation to Process account

My "trusted File location" is set as http://xxxxxx.company.com/subsite/Documentlibrary/

I also added a http://xxxxxx.company.com with trust children to no affect.

The "trusted data connection library" is set to the same documentlibrary above.

I've also opened the site directly at the server with the same error.

Is there any where else I can look to figure out where the process is failing as I never get anything other than the error above.

Errors Using Report Filter Or Refresh

Greetings, I have cube using SSAS 2008 on ServerA. I have permissions thru Windows authentication to connect to this cube using an Excel 2007 Pivot table with no problem via ODC that is in a trusted data connection library. I saved this excel file in a document library on my MOSS 2007 server. This library is a trusted file location. I can use the Excel Web Access to see my pivot, but when I try to change the report filter from Calendar year 2009 to 2008 I get the following error:

"Data Refresh Failed. Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections. ServerA MyCube. The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access. Verify that data refresh is enabled for the trusted file location and that the workbook data authentication is correctly set."

Now if I click on the plus next to the 2009 Year, I get the following error:

"Data Refresh Failed. Unable to retrieve external data for the following connections: ServerA MyCube. The data sources may be unreachable, may not be responding, or may have denied you access. Verify that data refresh is enabled for the trusted file location and that the workbook data authentication is correctly set."

Has anyone run across this and how to fix this? Any information would be helpful.

Excel Services filter: "Additional Items Hidden"

I am publishing an Excel Services report to Sharepoint. The report is connected to an SSAS cube and contains a pivot table that is filtered to show the Top 10 values. When viewing the report in Sharepoint there is a down arrow on the column that is being filtered. If the down arrow is clicked a small menu containing the attribute name which is being filtered is displayed. The attribute name contains a submenu with the following options: "Sort Ascending", "Sort Descending", "Clear Filter from <Attribute Name>", "Label Filters", "Value Filters", and "Filters..."

This particular attribute that is being filtered has a lot of values. If a user selects "Filters..." from the submenu they only see a partial list of values and the very last value reads "Additional Items Hidden...". The users can get around this by instead selecting "Label Filters" but they would rather not have to do this. Is there a way to show all the filter values or at least set the threshold of how many filter values will show up in the list?

firefox & Chrome do not display conditionnal formatting icons (when using Excel services)

Hi,

I have an Excel document published in MOSS with some conditionnal formatting.
in IE there is no problems.
in Firefox the webpart displays the content excet the icons from the conditionnal formatting.
Same behavior using google chrome.

the HTML generated appear to be correct there is the <IMG> tags and if I open the href from the img tag, I can see the picture in firefox.

any idea why the icons are not displayed?

Pivot Table drill down in Excel web services.....

I have loaded a workbook on sharepoint excel services but when i double click on the rows in the Pivot table displayed on sharepoint excel web access i dont get the drill down effect, wehere in excel it opens a new sheet with details of the suimmarized pivot table entry. is there something i am missing or is this normal?

Hi,
I have a Excel 2007 which has around 50000 rows in the 'Report Filter' of the pivot table.when I open the Excel, all the 50000 values are appeared in the drop down of the 'Report filter'.
When I publish the Excel to Sharepoint via Excel Services, I received the 'Not all items' showing error,When I clicked the drop down (of Report filter).
Actually,Excel 2007 is not imposing the limit on the items in the dropdown, but perhaps rather Sharepoint is or Excel Services is.
Do you guys have any idea about what is the maximum limitation of those values?.
Do we have any workarounds to display all the items,when I click the drop down (of Report filter)?

Hi,

I created an excel file with chart using SQL Server DB. Then uploaded the excel file in the sharepoint server, using Excel Web Access Webpart.

It works fine, but the problem is, the data are not updated dynamically.

For e.g., if the database is updated, the values are not reflected back in the chart which is in the sharepoint page.

Hello,

I'm evaluating Excel Services as a reporting solution. Viewing reports works excellent, but what is Microsoft's recommendation for printing the reports?

I haven't seen a print function in EWA's toolbar, and the browsers' printing functionality is basically useless (especially for reports containing more than one page).

Most client workstations have installed older (i.e. < 2007) versions of Microsoft Office, so opening the workbook or a snapshot for printing is not possible. I have even tried installing the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats - without success, but to be honest, this was the result I had expected.

Create where clause with parameters in Excel Services

I'm just starting out with Excel Services, and I have what I think is a pretty straightforward question. Basically I have a set of data from SQL Server that I want to display in a workbook on MOSS, and I want to be able to control the dataset's contents with a parameter in the workbook that a user can modify on the web display. For example, year is the parameter, the user can enter a year, and the sheet shows only data for the selected year.

My question is this: can I set the workbook up so the query forms a where clause based on this user-entered parameter? Or, is there a better way to go about this altogether? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I am trying to code a web interface in C# using Excel Calculation Services, to publish an excel workbook with only some of it's worksheets made visible.

It would be just like setting the workbook's publishing options in Excel 2007. Problem is, i don't find any method or API to do this... Can somebody help me on this ?

Every time I open site I get this message.

"This workbook contains one or more queries that refresh external data. A malicious user can design a query to access confidential information and distribute it to other users or perform other harmful actions.

Date Range Filter for Excel Services

Hi,

I want to use Excel Services to publish summary KPI values for a customer project. However, the customer needs to be able to change the dates for which the KPIs are calculated, by entering enter a date range e.g. From 01/01/2007 to 02/28/2007. The range could be a week, mutliple weeks, a month, multiple months, year to date, month to date, etc.

For most of these examples, actually selecting the dates in question (one at a time!) from the Date Filter would be totally impractical. I know that I could expose the filters on the columns and let them enter a range in Excel, but there are multiple reports on the same SharePoint page, and I do not want the user to have to specify the date range over and over again for each different spreadsheet.

Is there any way to do this?

I have a table which is VLAN table and is linked to an IPAddress Table. I have to add lot of IPAddresses to a particular VLAN is there anyway that I can autfill the IPAddress coloumn in the tables by assigning IPAddress in a increasing fashion without manully typing them in. Excel Web Access web part not in the list of Web parts available

I am unable to see the Excel Web Access web part in the list of Web parts available.

I have a MOSS SP1 farm with 3 Web Front Ends, 1 Application Server (with Excel Calculation Services started) and 2 Database server (well, one but it's clustered).

I have activated the following Site Features:
1. Office SharePoint Server Enterprise Site features
2. Office SharePoint Server Publishing
3. Office SharePoint Server Standard Site features

I followed the thread : http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointexcel/thread/ed4a7629-d510-4625-9651-e2a507d019c8 and copied the code from the <?xml......... to the </WebPart> and uploaded the file (I called _excel.dwp) successfully, then I could see Excel Web Access in the Web Part list - BUT, when I tried to load that web part I got the message:

Unable to add selected web part(s).
Excel Web Access: The file you imported is not valid. Verify that the file is a Web Part description file (*.webpart or *.dwp) and that it contains well-formed XML.

So, I have three questions: 1) What did I do wrong? 2) How can I load the Excel Web Access web part correctly? and 3) How/Where can I look in the logs to see what is or isn't going on? Thanks in advance.

Reasons and Try:

When I running the Sharepoint Project , i am getting very strange error, i getting data from excel and drawing it on chart, when i try to use filter option or playing with Excel it stop shwing me the chart , when i referesh that page it come back ok, then when play around it gives me same error again ….it countinus like that.

Hello,

I'm new in the sharepoint world and I am lost trying to understand how it works. With all the diferents configurations, settings, trusted locations, centrals points admins, shared services, sites, my sites, admin sites, etc... I have no clue where to start in order to figure out how it works all together. MOSS 2007 is really really hard to understand. For sure I would need some guidance, tutorial explaining the basics of sharepoint like: what is a library, what is a site, what is a central point, a shared service, what is really required for a sharepoint site to work, etc... Any link with less than 1500 pages explaining the key sharepoint concepts would be greatly apreciated.

My scenario:
We have some SSAS 2008 cubes setup and running. Some key users will use Excel 2007 in order to analyze the data in the cubes.
For centralizing purposes the odc files required to connect to the cubes will be stored in a DataConnection library in a sharepoint site. And the key users will point to this odc in order to connect into the cubes.
We were thinking to let the key users save their xlsx files in sharepoint too, so other users would be able to read and visualize the key user excels within web explorer. Additionally the IT department would publish some xlsx files that should be protected for modifications.

From what I see until now, when you put a excel files in sharepoint, a user could:
"View excel in Web Explorer": I could see and do drilldown, but I cannot modify the file
"Open excel in client Excel": I could modify the excel in local and replace the server version.
"Open a snapshot in client Excel": just a snapshot, no data connection, no drilldown, etc.

The question:
I have no idea how can I manage security in this scenario.
I would like to have:
-Some users that would be able to open some excels in client excel but they should not be able to modify the original excel in sharepoint.
-Some users that would not be able to open some excels in client excel but they should be able to view excel in web browser.
-Some users that would be able to create new excels, publish them into sharepoint and let other users consume the excel but not modify them.
-IT users could do whatever :). This one I think I could do it easily.

Where could I find the options in the sharepoint site (or any other place) for managing this security settings?

I cannot find Excel Web Access webpart

I am unable to see the ExcelWebAccess web part in the list of Web parts available. I tried to add a new webpart in the webpart Gallery section but I do not get the Excel Web Part listed there.

I have a MOSS SP1 farm with 2 Web Front Ends, 1 Application Server (with Excel Calculation Services started) and 1 Database server.

Am i missing out on some property/change/configuration?

Error in communicating with Excel Calculation Services

When attempting to view an Excel spreadsheet in SharePoint, we get the following error displayed in the web browser:

Excel Web Access: An error has occurred

Checking the Event Log we see:

The user has full admin rights over all systems
We are running RTM version of SharePoint 2007, Enterprise Edition
Excel Services is enabled, configured and activated on all levels.
The location is set as trusted.
The rest of the server works perfectly
Shared Services works fine apart from Excel, as My Site and Search works
We have set up one server using Kerberos (all SPN accounts set up and working, adsutil has ensured NEGOTIATE on all instances) but no go
We have set up another server using NTLM but no go
I have read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923502 but no go
I have tried both PROCESS and IMPERSONATION in the Excel Services settings, but no difference
Also followed every step in this article http://msd2d.com/content/Tip_viewitem_03.aspx?section=SharePoint&category=Administration&id=2d02b594-5e07-4957-921f-72e6e6954618 ...but no go.

Can anyone help?

Sharepoint Excel Services - Fails for one user

Excel Web Services is working for everyone except for one. So it is a local computer issue.
Trouble is, I can't find the add-in or software or ??? that will correct the problem.

One user goes to the site/tab for Reporting (where there is excel services) and locks up. Typically can see it start to loac but never gets any farther.
Everyone else is working fine.
I have all windows updates, java, flash, repaired office and still nothing. Didn't want to start disabling add-ins before asking for help.

So help!

"Open in Excel" is OK, "Open Snapshot in Excel" Timeout

I have a workbook that I can "View in Web Browser" just fine. It comes up almost immediately. There are a few spreadsheet tabs and a few images etc.

While viewing the workbook in the browser, I have the toolbar set to show and users have the capability of "Open in Excel" and "Open Snapshot in Excel".

"Open in Excel" comes right up in Excel, no delay

"Open Snapshot in Excel" times out after my 300 second timeout setting, and then gives a 500 error on screen

What is the system doing during the "snapshot" process that might time me out? Any ideas on what I can do to not timeout?

I have a sheet published, which in the excel client shows negative numbers in parenthesis, in excel services it shows with a minus sign.

Is Excel Services the correct direction to go for getting data from Lotus Notes to SharePoint?

This is the situation:
We have a "database" in Lotus Notes that records information about contracts. One of the fields is the path to the contract itself on a network drive. What we want is a document library with the contract files and relevant fields. I have a background with .Net but no experience with SharePoint or Notes. I had the Notes guy export the fields into Excel and imported the file as a new list. This left me with the data but not the actual files. I have no idea how to tie the two together. Then the create list from Excel started kicking out the "An unexpected error has occurred. Your table cannot be published." message so I can't even do that. The log files gave no additional info either.

I then asked a SharePoint consultant the best way to go. He said to create the document library and then run a Powershell script to read the file and insert the data and contract files into the document library. So I studied the Powershell info and tried a simple test to see if I could connect. It failed. Seems that I have to run the Powershell script on the actual SharePoint Server, which I'm not allowed to do.

I stumbled on the Excel Services forum. Now I ask, is it worth researching Excel Services as a possible way to get the data from Excel into a document Library and putting the contract files there from the network too?

Any knowledge, advice or suggestions related to this task are welcome. Also, before you suggest it, I have no training budget.

'Document Not Saved' when publishing an over 30MB workbook to Excel services

Hi All,

When I try to publish a workbook which is over 30Mb to Excel services I'm getting 'Document Not Saved' everytime. The max size of documents on the farm is 100Mb & I am able to Save the document into a normal library. I can't see anything in the moss logs that relates to this.

MOSS 2007, SP2 x64 running on Windows 2008 (x64). The client is Windows 7 x64 & Office 2007 SP2.

Has anyone seen this before?

In my Excel report , i am populating data from cube.

Actually, “Sales Order number” column has more than 50,000 distinct records in the source.But if we place this under ‘Report filter’ in ‘Pivot table Field List’, it shows only first 32000 values .That means, the limitation for filters (prompts ) in Excel 2007 is 32000 eventhough it has more than 32000 values (that’s the reason it shows “Not all items showing” in the drop down window).

Now, my question is,

Ø If I publish this Excel 2007 report in ‘Excel Services’ of Sharepoint, when users open the report, will they see all the 50000 records of the “Sales Order Number “ column in the filter area or only first 32000 values like the Excel 2007 we published in the Sharepoint?..

Hello,

we are developping an application using Sharepoint server 2007 and Excel Services. Works great under windows 2008 but won't in windows 2003 server.

We always get a System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException when trying to create an Excel services session.

Any ideas about this ?

Excel Services Performance.

Hi,

Does anyone have any tips for improving the performance of Excel Services?

I have a moss 2007 SP2 farm with the following servers:

2 x Load Balanced web front ends
1 x Backend (Running Search & ECS)
1 x Server Running Only ECS

At the moment, my report centre only has one dashboard, comprised of two sheets (~20Mb each), the first time I try to view the dashboard it takes between 2 & 3 mins to display the page, once it's cached, it's quite quick. Looking at perfmon on the ECS server, both processors (Xeon 3Ghz) go to 100% (IIS Processes) whilst processing the page. I need to get this load time down signifcantly.

All the servers are Windows 2008 x64

Any tips appreciated.

Open in Excel not displaying UDF values

I have a workbook with a few sheets for a table, chart and source data. The source data is populated from SharePoint lists using a UDF array function.
This all works fine.
However when I dowload the workbook using the "Open in Excel" option any cells that were populated via UDF show #VALUE. This suggests that the Excel client can't find the UDF which I can understand as they are on the server. However I would expect the actual values to shown until attempting to recalculate the workbook. The workbook is set to calculate automatically and this needs to be on for the book to work in excel services correctly.
The open in snapshot option works fine.

Any Ideas??

Maximum limitation of "Report Filter" values in Excel 2007 pivot table (SSAS Cube as datasource)

Hi,
With SSAS cubes as Source, I browsed a cube using Excel 2007 pivot tables. A column, lets say "Sales Order number" has more than 62000 rows in cube. When I drag the column into "Report filter" of Excel 2007 pivot tables, when I open it, I can see only first 32000 values. Because the limitation of Filter values in 'Report Filter' is 32000.lI am fine with that.
But when manager tried to open the same cube,same column in Excel 2007, he could see 32000 values but after publishing into Excel Services,he could see only 2000 values.I tried to figure out why it is so, but I am not able to do. Is there any settings, where he might have changed by mistake?....If any of you guys give your ideas, I would be more than happy..
