I have a need to save a site as a site template but I get an error message that says "The Site is too large to save as a template. The size of a template cannot exceed 10485760 bytes."  The site I'm trying to save has some document libraries and lists but are empty so it just seems there shouldn't be a problem saving it.  Can you tell me if theres a setting in central admin so that I can up the template size?  Is there a way to see just how large the site I'm trying to save as a template is?

Yes, I have used that before.  I was just looking for a way through the GUI interface but enumsite will work as well.  Thanks.

    See this WSS FAQ item

which has the statement you are asking for and also a warning about a probably maximum size.

This is very helpful thanks.  I will increase the size using the stsadm command.  How do I find out the actual size of the site before saving it as a template?

    Hi,

You can find the size used and available in the sharepoint site at  Site Actions - Site Settings -  Under 'Site Administration ' - Storage Space Allocation.

It will give you the details regarding the space used, space remaining  and the size used by the document libraries and lists in the site.

I don't have that option.  I get 13 options under site administration but not the storage space allocation option.  Is this due to not setting space quotas or a configuration on the backend somewhere?  One of my farms I do see under site collection administration section, the storage space allocation option and that is because we set quota limits on the site collection.  I'm wanting to find the size of the site not the site collection.  I'm wanting to create a template of a sub site of a site collection.  When I do this it only captures the sub site, right?  Not the entire site collection, correct?

IF thats the case then the best optin is t try with stsadm cmmand : ENUMSITE

    STSADM.exe -o enumsites -url htt:// YOURSITENAMEHERE

This will generate the site name, primanry site wner, content database, storage used, storage remaining details.

    Find mre details at  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262492.aspx
